Br. Gary Craanen

Professed vows for the Society of the Divine Word Chicago Province in 1971. Worked in Bordentown NJ 1973-1977 as vice-principal and disciplinarian at the Divine Word Seminary High School. Left the Order in 1977. Allegations were made public in 1/2012 that Craanen solicited two teenage boys for sex in NJ in the 1970s. Retired from his job of 30 years as a religion teacher at a Catholic school in Racine WI as a result of the allegations. Included on the Order's list of credibly accused.


Br. Joseph J. Charron

"Brother Andre." Prior to joining the Benedictine order, was a member of the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd since 1979. Worked with that order in Momence and Lombard IL, (Diocese of Joliet), Albuquerque NM (Archdiocese of Santa Fe) and Miami FL (Archdiocese of Miami). Was the Little Brothers' secretary general 1997-2002. Entered the Benedictine's Marmion Monastery in Aurora IL around 2004. In 9/2021 a former Marmion Academy student reported to police that he had been sexually abused by Charron, who was a faculty member at the school. Charron was placed on leave. In 4/2022 he was criminally charged on eight counts of sex abuse and assault. Pleaded guilty to battery in 4/2024. Sentenced to 180 days in jail and 30 months' probation. Received credit for almost 700 days of home confinement. Paid over $35K in restitution. Included in 4/2024 on the Diocese of Rockford's list.


Br. Samuel Charles Cabot

Worked in CA, AZ, the Philippines and in the Archdiocese of Hermosillo in Guaymas, Sonora Mexico. Accused in 2002 of abusing two young girls, who were cousins, 1981-1985. The abuse of one of the girls began when she was age 4; Cabot had helped her family adopt her when she was an infant. Removed from public ministry in 2002. The cousins filed a civil suit in 2003. Settlement announced in 8/2006. Cabot "may be" the perpetrator in an 8/2008 civil suit. Plaintiffs uncertain. (See additional information in two suits filed in Fall 2009.) Personnel file released in 5/2012. Name included on the Santa Barbara Province Franciscans list 5/31/2019. On the Las Cruces diocese's list 6/24/2019, where he worked 1956-1957. Died in 2019. Included in 8/2021 on the Fresno diocese's list of credibly accused.

Fr. Roberto Antonio Cadavid Arroyave

Diocese: Diocese of Brooklyn NY

From Colombia, Diocese of Medellin. Arrived in Brooklyn in 12/12; worked in Brooklyn and Queens parishes until 6/17, returned to Colombia. News in 10/18 that the diocese quietly removed him in 6/17 after learning that, prior to his arrival in Brooklyn, he was accused of molesting at least four boys. Allegations in Colombia began in 2005, when Cadavid was director of a school. He was moved among churches, transferred when new allegations emerged. One accuser said Cadavid paid him 88 million pesos (about $46k) in 2009 to silence him. At least six accusers. Medellin Bishop Tobon gave permission in 11/12 for Cadavid's transfer to Brooklyn. In 3/18 Tobon denied knowing the priest was in the U.S. The Brooklyn diocese didn't inform parishioners for 10 months about Cadavid's history of alleged abuse.

One of 21 priests placed on administrative leave by the Philadelphia archdiocese 3/7/11 pending investigation of credible allegations involving sexual abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors. Last assignment was as parochial vicar of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Richboro. In 5/12, archdiocese found allegations of violation of Standards of Ministerial Behavior to be substantiated. Found unsuitable for ministry.

Fr. Lynn Richard Caffoe

Archdiocese received notice on 1/21/1975 that Caffoe sexually abused altar boys at his first parish. Faculty had been concerned during his seminary training at St. John's in Camarillo. File summaries indicate at least 15 victims. Accused in every parish, including St. Callistus in what later became the Orange diocese. Removed after his therapist reported to authorities on 5/8/1991. Treated at St. Luke's Institute 1991-1992. Laicized in 1/2006. Settlement 7/14/2007. Died in 2009. Personnel files released 1/2013.

Included on the Northeast Province Jesuits list of credibly accused 1/15/2019, which notes incidents reported in 2002 of abuse 1955-1956. Included on the Detroit archdiocese's list 6/10/2019.

Taught in PA schools, pastor of PA and WV parishes, taught at St. Francis University in Loretto PA for 20 years, VP there 1976-83. Retired to Franciscan retirement facility in Frederick County VA. Arrested 7/26/17, charged with taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a custodial or supervisory relationship. Complaint was said to have first been filed in 2003 of abuse by Cain of a 15-year-old girl, at her home in Fairfax. First reported in 2004, later withdrawn, reopened in 5/17. Cain died 5/12/18.

Died in 1984. The Archdiocese announced on its website 10/27/2014 that Cain was accused decades after his death of having sexually abused minors, and that the Archdiocesan Board of Review found the allegations to be credible. Cain worked in Pontiac, Monroe, Mt. Clemens, Detroit, and from 1960-1984 in Livonia. Included on the Archdiocese's list of credibly accused 6/10/2019.

Left the order in 2001. Included on the Vincentians list of credibly accused.

Fr. Daniel A. Calabrese

Convicted 1992 of abuse of a teenage boy. Sentenced to 90 days in jail, five years probation, and one year treatment. Previously transferred twice because of allegations involving youths. Civil suit 1993. Living in New Mexico as of 2003 and listed in Official Catholic Directory as on "leave of absence." Laicized 2005. On archdiocese's list 4/26/19. Suit filed in 8/19 under the NY Child Victims Act, claiming abuse of a child, age 13-14, at Blessed Sacrament in West Brighton in 1989-90. Accused in a 12/19 lawsuit of abuse prior to ordination in the showers at St. Joseph's Seminary of a boy, age 13, and that another person attempted a sex act on him at the same time.

Fr. Paul Calamari

Removed from ministry in 2003 after credible allegation of abuse, likely in the 1970s, before ordination. Name first appeared on list released by Bishop Saltarelli of Wilmington, DE 11/16/2006. Began working in the Wilmington diocese in 1997. Was working as field supervisor for Penn State Univ's Center for Survey Research until name released. Also worked for PA Department of Corrections. The Wilmington diocese released personnel files in 2/2012. Name included on on New Orleans archdiocese's list 11/02/2018. Removed from the archdiocesan payroll as ordered by the judge in bankruptcy in 5/2020. Medical benefits reinstated by the same judge after Calamari complained. Accused along with Rev. Michael Fraser in a 6/2019 lawsuit of abuse of a boy beginning in the late 1970s. Calamari denied the claim but reportedly admitted to "sin" with a teen prior to priesthood. Settlement in 2018 with a man claiming abuse about ages 7-14 in about 1975-1982 by Calamari, who was the man's father's cousin.

Fr. Ernest Dale Calhoun

Ordained for the Beaumont TX diocese. HIs personnel file says he should never have been ordained. Raped a 15-year-old boy in 1969. Served as a US Navy chaplain in the mid-1970s. Transferred to the Yakima diocese in 11/1976; continued to abuse. Faculties revoked in Yakima in about 1986. At least one claim against the Beaumont diocese settled in 1998. Suit filed in WA in 1988 against Calhoun and R. Scully, settled in 1994. At least three known victims in the 1980s in WA. Also worked in Seattle; on its Tribunal 1987-1988. May have gone on to live in TX. A 10/2011 suit in WA settled in 12/2012 for $50K; a  5/2013 suit settled in 2/2014 for $75K. Included on the Seattle archdiocese's 1/15/2016. Name reversed at times in the Official Catholic Directory, as "Calhoun Dale." On the Beaumont diocese's list 1/31/2019. On Yakima's list 7/9/2019.

Permanently removed from ministry in 3/1993. Died 5/26/1996. Believed to have abused several youths. One man said he was forced to "lure sex partners" from a local park for Calhoun and another priest 1981-1983. He also claimed Calhoun was part of a homosexual ring of abusive priests. Named as abuser in a 7/1994 civil suit. Another suit said he covered up abuse by Fr. Robert Vonnahmen. On diocese's list 12/19/2018. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report, which notes nine "reported survivors."

Fr. John Walter Calicott

Suspended in 1994 due to accusations of sexual molestation of two 15-year-old boys in 1976. Sent to treatment; deemed "no significant risk" and allowed to return to assignment in 1995. Removed again 6/2002 after Dallas Bishops Conference. Sued in 2004. Included in 2003 on the Chicago archdiocese list of accused priests. Reportedly teaching sex ed in a parish school by 2004. Canonical court trial pending in 9/2005. Laicization announced 10/27/2009. Personnel file released in 11/2014; one man said at the time that Calicott abused him when he was a 12-year-old altar boy at St. Ailbe's on the South Side in the 1970s. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report, which notes seven "reported survivors," of abuse 1976-2002.

Personnel files released in 12/02. Accused of sexual advances in 1983 toward a 17-year-old boy in a rectory bedroom of a Lawrence MA parish. Matter settled. Same youth accused Rev. Alfred M. Murphy O.S.A., assigned to same parish, of repeatedly sexually abusing him a few months later during a cross-country trip. Callaghan was accused also of sexually harassing a 22-year-old male employee of the MA parish. Settled 1993 for $17K. Transferred late 1980s or early 1990s to Augustinian headquarters in PA, then to nursing home due to Alzheimers disease. Died 12/24/08. Name omitted from 2011 Boston AD database because he was an Order priest.

Fr. Raymond C. Callahan

Per the Archdiocese, abuse was first reported in 1971. Would take boys to a cabin in VA. Removed from ministry in 1971. Criminally convicted but apparently did not serve prison time. Laicized in 1977. Died in 1996. At least one claim against Callahan was included in a $1.3M settlement with 16 men who alleged abuse 1962-1982. Included on the  Archdiocese's list 10/15/2018.

Named publicly as accused in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General's Report. Sued in 1978 for an affair with a neighbor's wife. Went on leave of absence, never returned to ministry. Married. Report in 1988 to the Archdiocese that Callahan sexually abused a boy, ages 11-18, from 1967-1974. The abuse was said to have included rape and involved alcohol. It occurred in many places, including during overnights at the rectories of St. Rita's in Baltimore and Christ the King in Edgemere. The alleged victim said he was sure others knew about it. A priest assigned to St. Rita's with Callahan 1970-1972 said "Callahan was close to many young people, including the victim and his family" and that he knew Callahan "had kids in his room." Callahan was laicized in 2017. He died 11/22/2019.

Worked in San Francisco, Spokane, Great Falls, Boise City, Baker, Seattle, Gallup, Tucson, and Portland OR dioceses. Gallup and Tucson assignments in 1962-1968 were in the CA province, not his home OR province. As part of Section 13.1, Non-Monetary Commitments, of the Society of Jesus, Oregon Province, Reorganization Plan (dated 7/18/2011) the Province agreed to post on its website the names of all members who are identified as perpetrators of sexual abuse in proofs of claim filed in the bankruptcy, and who have not denied the allegation. Callan's name is included on this list without any additional information on claims against him. Died 4/19/1991. On Jesuits West Province list 12/7/2018. It notes alleged abuse 1950-1953, reported in 2009. Added in 7/2023 to the Gallup diocese's list of credibly accused.

Fr. Sergio Calle Perez

From Colombia. Named as accused on the archdiocese's list 11/6/2018. Assigned to St. John Neumann 1998-1999, St. Marguerite d'Youville 1998-1999 and Prince of Peace in 1999. Laicized in 2004. Included in the 3/24/2023 GA PAC Report, which shows multiple teenage and young male victims. Sent to therapy while a seminarian after offering a male parishioner a back massage. Accused of putting his hand down the front of a teenage boy's shirt and squeezing his neck or chest, in the sanctuary behind the altar at St. Marguerite in Lawrenceville, between 1999-1998. Ordered to continue therapy. Sent in Spring 2002 to St. Louis for evaluation due to concerns about boundary violations with a boy, age 17. Removed as pastor of Prince of Peace, placed on leave. One teenage boy complained that Calle-Perez touched him inappropriately during confession. Another said the priest tried to grab his penis while they were swimming. Another accuser said the priest grabbed his crotch while arm wrestling. On one occasion Calle-Perez allegedly took some boys to dinner and a movie, then to his apartment where he gave the boys alcohol then refused to take them home. In 11/2013  a man alleged oral rape by Calle-Perez in 1995, when the man was 15. No prosecution due to the statute of limitations.

Extern priest from Ecuador, arrived in Denver in early 1997, assigned to St. Stephen's in Glenwood Springs. Previously was in the Salt Lake archdiocese. Named publicly as accused in the CO A.G. report 10/22/19. It notes reports of recent child sexual abuse to the diocese in 3/97, that Calle tried to fondle a 12-year-old boy in a swimming pool, and that he sexually abused a 17-year-old boy in a car. When confronted Calle fled CO and returned to Ecuador.

Fr. Peter J. Callery

Accused in a lawsuit filed in 10/19 of abuse of a Jesuit College Prep student in the early 1980s. The plaintiff also claimed abuse by former Jesuit Prep president Rev. Patrick Koch. Callery was the boy's teacher and wrestling coach. The abuse is said to have occurred in a hotel room during a team trip to a match. In 10/19 Callery was living and working at Manresa House of Retreats in Convent, LA. The Jesuits stated that Callery would be suspended from public ministry "until this matter is resolved." Another former Prep student joined a suit filed in in 8/19 against the school and diocese, alleging abuse there by Callory and Rev. Vincent Malatesta. It settled in 3/22.

Fr. John J. Calnan

Priest of the Cork and Ross, Ireland, ordained in 1964. Assigned 1964-1966 to St. Joseph Parish in Augusta, GA. Appears to have left the U.S. in or around 1966. Returned to Ireland, where he spent the remainder of his priesthood. Pleaded guilty in 2012 at the Central Criminal Court to attempted rape and three counts of indecent assault of a girl and one count of indecent assault of a boy; sentenced to 8 years in prison with 3 years suspended. Pleaded guilty in 2/2015 at Cork Circuit Criminal Court to one count of indecent assault of a young girl. Pleaded guilty in 4/2015 to sexually assaulting a girl age 7 in West Cork in 1989, digitally penetrating her while he heard her first confession; sentenced to three years in jail, with the final year suspended. Pleaded guilty in 3/2018 to digitally penetrating a little girl in the late 1980s while hearing her first confession; received a suspended sentence because of his age. Received a suspended sentence in 4/2018 of 18 months for digitally penetrating three girls, 6 to 12 years of age, in 1974-1978, two of them during first confession.

Accused of abuse of two high school boys at St. Stanislaus in Modesto 1/11/1982 - 02/1719/84. He was briefly at St. Anthony Parish in Hughson 12/1981 - 1/1982. Removed from ministry and returned to Mexico at request of (then) Bishop Mahony of Stockton. Named in Cardinal Mahony's 2004 deposition and a memo from the Bishop of Stockton to police. Name is included on list of claimed abusers attached to Stockton Diocese's 5/9/2014 filing in bankruptcy court.

Fr. Pierre Celestin Cambiaire

First named publicly as accused on the archdiocese's list 11/2/2018. Allegation noted to have been received in 1917, of abuse in the late 1910s. Removed from ministry in 1917. Assignments included Sacred Heart of Jesus in Cameron, St. George in Baton Rouge, St. Joseph's in Grosse-Tete and St. Leon in Leonville. Died in 11/1955. On the Baton Rouge diocese's list in early 2019 as he worked in the territory in the New Orleans archdiocese which later became the Diocese of Baton Rouge.

Fr. Michael G. Campanalonga

Accused of abusing three brothers in the late 1960's-early '70s, including on trip to California. Permanently suspended in 1993 after refusing psychiatric evaluation after allegations of sexual abuse were made. Two of the three brothers sued him in 1994. SOL stopped legal action and case dismissed 2002 after several appeals.

Fr. Alvin L. Campbell

Ordained for the Diocese of Springfield IL. U.S. Army Chaplain 1963-1977. Resigned from the Army when confronted with "a moral problem with boys/young men." Diocese was informed in 1/1978, yet assigned Campbell as parish pastor. Named pastor of another parish in 1979, where allegations surfaced in 1/1980. Admitted in 12/1981 to abuse of a girl. Reassigned. Worked 1982-1985 at St. Maurice in Morrisonville where he abused 26 children. Arrested in 1985 for abuse of boys, ages 11-15. Owned child porn. Pleaded guilty. Sentenced to 14 years prison. Released in 1992. Bishop requested laicization in 1989 but was denied by CDF prefect Cardinal Ratzinger because Campbell did not agree. He later agreed and was laicized, possibly in 1992. Died 12/2/2002. At least one civil suit settled in a 2004 mass settlement. Six more victims from 1970s and early 1980s settled with the Diocese in 1/2007 for $625K. On Diocese's list 11/29/18. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report. It notes reports that Campbell sexually abused 33 children in the diocese.

Fr. Andrew S. Campbell

Diocese: Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown PA

Head of the English department at St. Vincent University when placed on leave in 2002. A woman filed suit in 5/03 alleging Campbell and two other priests abused her 16-year-old son at St. Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe 1980-82. Claims against Campbell were dismissed in 5/04, but son had filed individual suit in 2/04. Both suits settled.

Rev. Daniel V. Campbell

Added in 2/2023 to the Jesuits' Southern and Central Province's list of credibly accused. Campbell was a St. Louis University faculty member in the late 1950s. Abuse estimated to have occurred during 1955-1959. Per his obituary, Campbell taught at St. Louis University High School, SLU's Parks College in Cahokia and Marquette University. He was a member of the Province's Mission Band, preaching at retreats in the 1940s, and for eight years an Air Force chaplain. He died in 1986.


Fr. Hugh P. Campbell

Msgr. Campbell retired from Saint Maximilian Kolbe, West Chester, in 2007 and moved into a private residence. In 12/11, he "self-reported sexual abuse of a minor" approximately 40 years previously. Placed on leave. On 5/20/12, the archdiocese announced it had found him not suitable for ministry. Campbell accepted a supervised life of prayer and penance. Died 2/13/16.

Fr. John F. Campbell

Accused in a lawsuit filed 3/22/2022 of sexually abusing a girl from about 1960-1966, beginning when she was age 10 and a student at St. Mary's in Long Island City, NY. Campbell was the parish pastor. Per the suit, the abuse began when the girl's father was terminally ill and Campbell was providing spiritual guidance and financial support to her mother. The plaintiff alleges that the nuns and, housekeeper and other priests at the parish knew she was spending inordinate amounts of time with Campbell and enabled it. Further, she told a priest in confession during her freshman year of high school about the abuse, and his response was that she was shameful to lie about Campbell and that she would go to hell. Campbell remained at St. Mary's until his death in 1968.

"Jack." Order paid $185K in 2003 to a former student who alleged abuse by Campbell in the early 1970s in "therapy sessions." Arrested in 12/2002 after an 18-year-old girl alleged he sexually abused her at age 14 when he was assistant principal and spiritual director at her school. Placed on leave. Indicted again in 10/2003 on charges that he molested another girl 1999-2000 in a different county. Pleaded guilty in 2004. Sentenced to 8 years (4 for each girl). Two civil suits filed in 2004; settled in 5/2007 for $2.2M. At least one more credible accuser. Laicized in 6/2005. Released from prison 2/13/2008. Back in prison in 4/2008 on a parole violation; soon released. Back in 4/2009. Released 7/28/2010. Last known to be living in Crystal Lake, IL. On diocese's list 11/14/2018. Fr. Francis E. Canfield

A former St. John's High School in Toledo student told the Province in 2022 that Canfield sexually abused him during 1999-2000. Canfield was a teacher at the school 1990-2005. He died in 5/2023. In 4/2024 St. Ignatius High School authorities announced that an allegation that Canfield sexually abused a student in 2011-2012 had been deemed credible. The school received the allegation in 12/2023. Canfield was assigned to St. Ignatius 2006-2014.

He soon began helping the Archdiocese with the Asian community and became very well known. In 3/2001 allegations were made that he had raped a woman in 1983 and molested two young girls in the 1980s. The Order sent him for treatment and later to Redemptorist residences in Chicago IL, then Oakland CA. His priestly functions were permanently removed. Said in 1/2023 to be living at a Redemptorist care facility for the elderly and infirm in MO. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report.

Pastor had told Bishop McCormick prior November. Caparelli admitted to acting "too freely" with the boys. Sent to Padua Retreat House, assigned to St. Mary's in Old Forge. Admitted to State Police in 1974 to molesting children. No charges. Made pastor in Milford in  1981. Arrested in 1991 for 1985 abuse of a boy. Pleaded guilty. In 12/91 a man alleged abuse by Caparellii at St. Mary's at age 11 or 12, along with other boys. Suit filed in 12/91 alleging rape of boy 9/85-6/86 at St. Vincent de Paul. Sentenced in 7/92 to 2 1/2 to 5 years in prison. Another charge for abuse of a boy added time to his sentence in 1993. Had AIDS. Died in prison 12/24/94. Two suits settled in 1996. A 2005 suit settled in 1/07. New suit in 7/20 claims abuse of a boy, ages 10-13, starting around 1974.

Carmel Church in Cedar Knolls, NJ when the suit was announced. St. Mary's Abbey reported in 2012 that he is was under restrictions and being monitored. Settlement in 6/18 with five men alleging abuse at Delbarton School. Named in 7/20 lawsuit(s) filed under the NJ Child Sexual Abuse Act.

Arrested in 2000 for allegedly sodomizing a 14-year-old boy, who was staying at rectory due to problems at home. Charges were soon dropped and case sealed, per a spokesman for the Brooklyn D.A. A second man came forward claiming he was abused in the 1980s. Capellupo was removed from ministry in 2001. The Diocese found allegations credible in 6/2005. Laicized 6/4/2012. Died 3/17/2017. Included on the Diocese's list in 2/2019.

Left active priesthood in mid-1980s. Privileges removed 1992; sent to treatment. Taught high school in Newark public schools for 20 years. At least 24 other men came forward with same complaints. Given non-teaching job 11/11. Another suit 12/11. Both settled in 2012. Surrendered public schools teaching license in 6/13. Laicized, possibly in 3/14. His appearance at an annual Family Festival at Our Lady of the Valley parish resulted in suspension without privileges by Paterson bishop of the pastor, Chris Di Lella, a long-time friend. On Newark archdiocese's list 2/13/19. Died 3/6/19 of gunshot wound at his home in NV. Homicide investigation initiated. Reportedly had a history of hiring male prostitutes. Alleged shooter had answered Capparelli's add for male wrestlers. New suit(s) in 7/20 claim abuse in the 1980s. By 11/21 accused in 20 lawsuits.

Carelli's accuser said Carelli would call him into the principal's office and abuse him there. Further, he said that he failed only one subject that year but that Carelli kept him back, because he had refused Carelli's advances. Retired in 1993 and died in 2000. Three suits were settled out of court by 2/2006.

Carew was assigned to Immaculate Conception in Newburyport 4/1960-2/1963. Per the Boston archdiocesan list on 8/25/2011, he was publicly accused after his laicization on other grounds. Carew died in 2015. Included on the Order's list of credibly accused.

Seminarian Wilfred Laurent Carignan

Carignan, described as a "monk-in-training" who was not accepted into the order, was accused in 2011 of molesting a youth while working at St. Benedict's Monastery as a beekeeper. The boy was a 6th or 7th grader who was being tutored by Carignan in about 2000 when abuse occurred. At time of arrest, Carignan was serving two separate 6-year life sentences for abuse of another youth. Conviction was in 2008.

More suits filed in 12/2006 and 7/2008. A 2006 suit settled in 4/2009 for $1.5M. The plaintiff died day after signing the settlement agreement. At least three other settlements in 2010 and 2011. Permanently removed from ministry in 4/2002, per the Diocese's list 12/13/2018.  Per the MI Attorney General's Report in 10/2022, there were multiple allegations against Carne of the sexual abuse of boys ages 8-17 and male college students, and an attempt to forcibly kiss at least one teenage girl. Carne said he had been sexually abused by Fr. Michael Hale, which caused him "life-long troubles." Carne died 5/13/2019.


Fr. John J. Carney

Name included on the Baltimore archdiocese's 9/2002 list of priests who had been accused of child sexual abuse. Included in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General's Report. Parish priest, teacher at Archbishop Keough High School early in career. Assigned from 1972 forward as chaplain at various nursing homes and hospitals. In 1991 a woman reported that on numerous occasions Carney fondled and kissed her when she was age 10, in 1970 or 1971, when he was assigned to Our Lady of Victory. Also at the parish was later credibly accused priest Fr. John Peacock, who  was told of an incident. He told the parish only that Carney was going on retreat. The woman said that when she was between 18-20 she reported the abuse to Baltimore County Police and that Carney admitted the abuse on a phone call. No prosecution. She said she met with the Archdiocese but they wouldn't discuss the abuse. They settled with her for $50K. In 1991 Carney admitted kissing the girl, but denied inappropriate behavior. His faculties were removed in 1995 after the woman again contacted the Archdiocese and he admitted to having engaged in 'inappropriate conduct.' Discovered in 2014 to be wearing a Roman collar and presented himself as a priest; Archdiocesan officials were to tell him to stop. Accused in 2017 of physically abusing a 6th grade boy in the 1960s. Carney was friends with accused priest Joseph Maskell; one Maskell victim told the A.G. that Carney was present during her abuse. The man physically abused by Carney stated that he was sexually abused by Maskell. Carney died 10/30/2020.

Deacon Marvin A. Carney, Jr.

Nickname "Skip." Assigned to St. Rita Parish as a transitional deacon. Arrested 5/16/1981 and charged with sexual abuse, sodomy, distribution of obscene material to a minor and unlawful transaction with a minor, the same week he was to be ordained to the priesthood. Police had questioned a teenage boy in a car outside an adult bookstore who said he was waiting for Carney. Carney was arrested after he came out of the bookstore and handed the boy a bag with pornographic books. Charges were dropped; Fr. Joseph Herp, who was later the subject of substantiated allegations of abuse, may have intervened. The boy's parents got an attorney who would not allow officials' further contact with the boy. Carney was ordained in 1986 for the Diocese of Metuchen. No longer in active priesthood after 1990. Living in NJ at least through 2021.

Found not guilty by jury in 3/94 of gross sexual assault and other charges involving a 13-year-old girl. Said to have assaulted girl with a pencil and his hands 5/9/92 in the sacristy of St. James in Baileyville. Caron's defense was that he would not have assaulted the girl because he was gay. Caron retired "on disability" before the charges were filed. Name in the news 2002-03 because he posted on a gay web site created by another priest, Fr. John Harris. Privileges temporarily revoked but later reinstated. Investigation of new complaint in 2/12 of incidents 1982-86. Diocese deemed claims "substantiated." New claims under investigation by Archdiocese in 8/14. One man says Caron sexually abused him as a boy for 3 years, taking him on trips after his mother died. Laicization announced 6/10/16.

Accused in 1995 of molesting two boys in separate incidents years prior. Placed on leave. Civil litigation filed. Four claims against Carr settled in 3/2001 as part of a settlement of claims by 26 victims against the Bridgeport Diocese and six priests. Per a 2002 article, Carr spent more than 10 years with the Carmelite Order; he took perpetual vows in 1974 but was not allowed ordination because of emotional immaturity. The Bridgeport diocese then allowed him to study and be ordained. Removed from ministry in 2002. Laicized in 2005. Per a 2019 report commissioned by the diocese, there were 12 victims, ages 9-15, of abuse 1979-1990, mostly boys, at least one girl.

Fr. Cornelius J. Carr

"Neil." Per news in 1/2006, Carr was being investigated by his Order for allegations of child abuse. Member of the New York Province. Held Jesuit leadership positions; appointed Provincial 1966. High school principal, including McQuaid in Rochester 1960-1964. Principal of St. Peter's Prep in NJ. Theology department head 1977 at Jesuit High in New Orleans LA. Worked in the St. Augustine, FL diocese 1981-2005. Accused in 2012 of walking in on janitor Peter Modica raping a teen boy at Jesuit High in the 1970s, and proceeding to masturbate during the rape. Jesuit High settled with Carr's accuser. Carr died in 2013, at age 93. He had been living at Murray-Weigel Hall in the Bronx, NY. Name included on the New Orleans archdiocese's list 11/2/2018. It noted notification of allegations via media reports in 2018. On Jesuits Central and Southern Province's list 12/7/2018, citing multiple allegations. On Jesuits Northeast Province list 1/15/2019, noting report in 2005 of abuse 1989-1990. On St. Augustine list 11/6/2020, abuse noted in 1991.

Fr. Gary M. Carr

In 4/2020 the diocese announced that its review board had determined that there was a "semblance of truth" to a recent allegation that, 30 years prior, Carr engaged in inappropriate contact with a boy, ages 10-13. Carr had been placed on leave with restricted ministry in 2008 due to "boundary violations." Reportedly, parents reported to church authorities for years behavior including Carr's parading around in a makeshift diaper at a grade school Mardi Gras party and wrestling shirtless with 5th grade boys. He retired in 11/2019, a month after an allegation was reported. By 7/2020 there were new credible allegations by three men that Carr sexually abused them as children in the 1980s and 1990s. In 7/2020 Carr was living in St. Louis. On the Diocese of Little Rock's list in 12/2020, where he filled-in 10/2020-10/2030 at St. John the Baptist Latin Mass Community. Included on the Springfield-Cape Girardeau diocese's 4/13/2021 list of accused. Included on the Santa Fe archdiocese's list 6/19/2021, where he was assigned 1/2006-11/2006 and assisting while on health leave 8/10/2006-7/11/2008.

He also said the Diocese transferred Carrera back to Spain when it learned of the abuse. A second suit filed in 5/2011 alleged abuse of a 10-year-old boy in 1976 at the same parish. Appeals court upheld lower court's dismissal due to the statute of limitations 4/17/2013. Carrera had lived in Spain since the early 1980s.

He was working in 2003 as a lay religious educator in the Louisville archdiocese. Placed on leave with pay. Carrico denied the allegations in the first two lawsuits but did not comment on the others. Plaintiff also claimed abuse by Doug Perlitz, a school founder supervised by Carrier, who was convicted in 12/2010 of sexually abusing boys there. In 10/2014 Carrier was residing at Weston Jesuit Center in MA.

Kept in ministry until December 2003. The Pittsburgh Diocese waited 11 years after learning about allegations before notifying parishioners in 2014. In 9/2015 Carroll remains on administrative leave while steps being taken toward laicization. Living at a private assisted-living facility. In 9/2020 the Boston archdiocesan website shows that the allegation was unsubstantiated, and Carroll's status was senior priest, ministry restricted. Carroll died 7/8/2021, at age 92.

Named in PA A.G.'s 3/1/16 Grand Jury Report among priests of the Altoona-Johnstown diocese "alleged to have engaged in sexually abusive acts with children." In 1/88 Bishop Adamec confronted Carroll about rumored behavior. Carroll admitted to "homosexual" behavior with a 17-year-old boy. Adamec suggested counseling. Carroll died 10/1/88. Two lawsuits filed in 2/03 included allegations against Carroll and 8 other "predator priests." In 2004 a man told the diocese that Carroll fondled and anally raped him after plying him with alcohol in 1971, when the man was an altar boy, age 12-13, at St. John Gaulbert's in Johnstown. The once devout boy and good student spiraled downward and struggled with alcoholism. In 7/15 a fellow priest testified it was "common knowledge" that Carroll molested children and that he was always " in the company of young boys."

A woman filed a police report in 2002 accusing Carter of sexually abusing her when she was an 8-year-old student at Notre Dame des Victoires School in the late 1970s. Carter was then a Marist brother. The archdiocese investigated, found the allegations inconclusive and allowed Carter to remain active. The woman filed a civil suit in 8/2002 and Carter was placed on leave. In 4/2008 the archdiocese allowed him to return to active ministry, saying again that the charges were inconclusive. Carter retired in 7/2021. In lawsuits filed under the CA Child Victims Act between 2020 and 2022, six other people - male and female - claimed abuse as children by Carter.

Per his obituary, Cartier "changed careers" in 1979, working in the computer industry then as a dog groomer.

Named publicly as accused by the diocese in 10/19. Allegedly sexually abused a girl, ages 10-13, during 1979-82. The girl's family attended St. Joseph's Parish in King's Park, where Casaclang was assigned. The abuse is said to have occurred during the priest's visits to the family's home. Casaclang left the parish after the diocese learned of the allegations, and was assigned to two more parishes. He is not indexed in the Official Catholic Directory after 2000. His accuser sued, and in 10/19 received a "low six-figures" settlement from the diocese. Included in 3/21 on the diocese's list of accused.

Following a recent court order, on 12/16/2013 Bishop Quinn released a list of 13 names of priests who had credible allegations of abuse involving minors against them. Cashman's inclusion on this list is the first public notice that he had been accused of abuse. Further information released by the Diocese 6/23/2014. Accused of making sexual advances toward several minor males prior to 1986, and of actual sexual contact with minor students and some seminarians. Sent to St. Luke's Institute. Cashman's privileges were suspended in 9/1992. Laicization pending as of 6/2014. Living at the time in Dallas, TX. Died in 2018. Accused in a 7/2023 lawsuit against Lourdes High School, Rochester Catholic Schools and the Diocese of Winona of sexually abusing a male Lourdes High School student, ages 14-16, in the early 1970s. Cashman worked at the school 1970-1977. The high school and Rochester Catholic Schools settled; the suit against the diocese was to continue, with a trial date of 7/22/2023.

Pled guilty in 8/08. Sentenced in 5/09 to 1 month in prison and 5 years probation.

Took "health" leave of absence in 1963. Underwent treatment at Paracletes in NM. Began working in NY in 1970s. In 2002 twin brothers accused Casper of molesting them for years, starting when they were altar boys in Albany. They met Casper in early 1970s; in 1973 he became their guardian. When the two came forward in 2002, both Albany and Rochester dioceses contended that Casper never had authority to act as priest in New York state. Faculties suspended. The two brothers sued in 5/03; dropped suit in 2005. One of them was offered financial support from the Pueblo diocese. In 2006 and 2009, Pueblo asked Bernard to seek laicization; he refused, denying allegations. Pueblo initiated laicization in 2015-16.

A man and woman filed separate suits in mid-2013 alleging abuse by Cassidy, who worked in parishes in Albuquerque, Taos and Mora. The suits were reportedly settled at some point before 5/2014. Another man filed suit in 5/2014 alleging abuse by Cassidy at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in northwest Albuquerque in the late 1960s. The plaintiff says he was abused between 50-80 times as a 10-year-old boy. In a suit filed in 11/2014, Cassidy was accused of molesting an 8- to 10-year-old girl in the late 1960s on a church bus. The Archdiocese knew of allegations against Cassidy by 1994 but never made them public. He died in 1994. Included on the Archdiocese's list of accused 9/12/2017.

In 11/1999 a woman told Cassity's supervising priest at St. Ann's in Marietta GA that Cassity was behaving inappropriately with her son, age 8. Sent to St. Luke's Institute for evaluation. Arrested in 4/2002 in Lake Wales, FL, where he had been working since 11/01/2001 as Director of Youth Ministry at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Charges related to allegations of abuse of three boys in 7/1999-12/2000 while working at St. Ann's in Marietta. Pleaded guilty in 7/2003 to molesting 12-year-old twin boys. The third boy was age 16 when allegedly abused. Sentenced to six years in prison and nine years' probation The family sued; settled in 12/2003 for $10M. Cassity died in 2006. Included on the archdiocese's list 11/6/2018. Also reportedly worked 1994-1999 in Silver Spring MD as a youth minister at St. John the Baptist, and briefly as Coordinator of Youth Ministry at Sacred Heart in Glyndon, MD between his assignments in GA and FL. Placed on leave in 2002 due to allegations in a lawsuit that he sexually abused a boy, ages 14-16, in the early 1970s. The abuse allegedly occurred at St. Kieran Church and LaSalle High School in Miami and during overnight trips to Disney World. Criminal charges were not pursued due to the statute of limitations. At least four civil suits named Castellanos. Two claims settled 9/22/2004. Retired in 2005 when a new suit was filed. Another suit filed in 5/2012 claims Castellanos abused a youth more than 150 times in about 1995 at San Isidro Church in Pompano Beach.

Claims included in the Diocese's 9/07 $1.25M settlement with 32 plaintiffs alleging abuse by 17 priests. Accused in 1999 of abuse of a 17-year-old boy in Ohio. Placed on leave. A fourth accusation in 2/02, by a man claiming abuse beginning age 17, 1974-77. A fifth accuser in 10/02 alleged he was abused in the 1970s as a 12- or 13-year-old altar boy. In 5/11 a man said the priest sexually abused him at age 15 or 16, in the late 1970s, and that his friend was also a victim. Castelucci was named in the PA Grand Jury report released 8/14/18, and on the diocese's list of credibly accused. On the Youngstown diocese's list 1/29/18. Per Pittsburgh's list in 10/22, Castelucci is deceased.

Removed from Our Lady of Guadalupe in Ontario CA in 6/2010 after allegations that he abused two brothers within the previous two years. The Review Board found the allegations credible in 9/2010. Subject of a prior complaint involving two adults and one youth; no arrests due to the statute of limitations. Arrested 10/25/2010. Pleaded guilty in 4/2011 to a lewd act with a minor. Sentenced 8/31/2011 to a year in jail and sex offender registration. Released 4/21/2012; re-arrested 5/9/2012 for probation violation; released. Two lawsuits filed 9/22/2011 settled in 2/2014 for $3.8M. Third suit filed in 2012. On the San Bernardino diocese's list 10/9/2018. Included on the Divine Word Missionaries' Western Province list in 2021; noted to have left the order in 2010.


Fr. Alexander Q. Castillo

From Costa Rica. Arrived in the U.S. in 2008. Assignments included parishes in Oakley and Fremont. Teacher at St. Junipero Serra Catechetical Institute and academic dean of Escuela de Ministerios Pastorales. Director of Dept. of Faith Formation and Evangelization and episcopal master of ceremonies. Castillo was informed on 1/30/19 that he had been placed on leave during an investigation of sexual misconduct toward a minor. Leave publicly announced in a 1/31/19 press release; police were notified of the allegation 5 hours later. Fled the country. Denied the allegation. Wrote a letter to to other Oakland priests saying the situation was a "misunderstanding" and that he was "not strong enough" to prove his innocence. Diocese filed a missing persons report 2/22/19. In 12/22 the Diocese claimed to have had no contact with Castillo and to not know where his whereabouts. Police said there were actually two possible victims, abused between 2011 and 2014.

Accused in a lawsuit of molesting another minor in 1977.  Per the  archdiocese in 2005, there were four accusers. Arrested for approaching a security guard in a store bathroom, apparently for sex. Reportedly returned to Mexico in 1980. Personnel file released in 1/2013.

Per the suit, another student accused Cosula in 1977, but the Salesians did not call police. Between 2002-2016, about 10 other former students alleged abuse by priests and brothers at the school, which closed in 2006. Included on the order's list of credibly accused in 3/2020.

Catullo's name is included on a secret 1994 memo from Fr. Wm. Lynn to Msgr. James Molloy (released 2/27/2012) regarding priests in secret archives who were guilty of sexual misconduct with minors.

Fr. Mauro J. Cautela

Placed on leave in 8/2005 after a young man told the diocese that Cautela sexually abused him when he was ages 12-19 from 1998 to 2005, under the guise of helping him to lift weights and massaging him. The man said this also happened to other boys. Cautela reportedly gave the boy alcohol, money and gifts and showed him gay porn. Allegedly used church funds for his "relationships" with the boys and porn. Named in the 8/14/2018 PA Grand Jury Report. Included on the diocese's list of credibly accused. At least three known alleged victims. Abuse said to have occurred on church property and on overnight trips. At least one reported incident of oral copulation. FBI agreed to file charges in 12/9/2005 related to incidents outside of PA; Cautela died of a heart attack 12/12/2005, so the investigation was closed. Civil suit filed 6/1/2006 by one person, settled in 11/2006 for $250K.

IN 10/2022 the diocese's list shows his status as "faculties restricted/canonical case pending." Found not guilty at trial in 11/2022. The diocese announced on 12/20/2022 that Cedolia would be assigned to Replacement Ministry and reside at St. John Vianney Manor.

He also admitted a relationship with another student at the school in the 1980s.

Ordained for the Archdiocese of Davao, Philippines. A civil lawsuit filed in 4/2010 alleged that Ceniza abused and stalked a youth while at St. Francis Church in Bakersfield around 1991. In 1993 his accuser called Bishop Steinbock, who met with him and promised Ceniza would no longer be a priest. The accuser later learned that Ceniza was living in the Philippines and still an active priest. The suit alleges fraud on the part of the Diocese. Ceniza's name was included in 2021 on the Diocese of Fresno's list of credibly accused.

Fr. Raymond F. Cepeda

First complaints against Cepeda, of the Archdiocese of Guam, were received in 2004. Matter was forwarded to Vatican; not laicized until 12/09 for "serious allegations of abuse." He was allowed to continue working for Catholic Social Services until 4/10. Public not told of laicization until that time, following inquiries by SNAP. Thought in 5/17 to be living in Canada. Accused in a 6/17 complaint of abuse of a boy when he was studying for confirmation at a Dedo parish, where Cepeda was in charge. This was Cepeda's sixth accuser. More suits filed in 7/17 re abuse of boys. A 10th filed 8/17 re rape of 10 or 11-yr-old boy in 1980 or '81. Reportedly defrocked 2009 or 2010. One accuser said he told Bishop Apuron who responded that he would get over it if he prayed about it. Died 11/14/17, age 66.

The Diocese knew of at least one instance of sexual misconduct with a minor in 1969. Police were involved in a 1982 investigation after a report that Chalifour attempted to molest a boy in the 1960s. Retired in 1992 (after therapy) but continued to work part-time until 2002. Sued in 5/2002. The Diocese paid three men a total of $85,000 in 2003. At least one claim was included in a 11/2005 settlement involving 28 priests. Per the Diocese's list 7/31/2019, Chalifour was assigned to a life of prayer and penance. He died 1/16/2020.

Bernard Law, then Bishop of the Springfield-Cape Girardeau diocese, responded to a 1981 allegation against Chambers by sending him for extended treatment and then reassigning him to two other parishes. Chambers was placed on restrictions in the mid-1990s by Bishop Leibrecht. Permanently removed from ministry in 1998 after violating the order forbidding him to be alone with any child. He had worked in a total of 22 parishes. Not indexed in the Official Catholic Directory after 2002, and is last known to have been living in Joplin. Per the diocese's list in 11/18, Chambers was laicized in 2006. Its updated list in 4/21 shows his laicization to have been on 12/9/05.

Removed from ministry in 6/2002 after a man told the archdiocese that Champagne abused him as a boy in 1979. The alleged victim told another priest, who in 1986 informed Archbishop Hunthausen that Champagne had "momentarily" molested a boy once in 1979. No action. The Vatican permanently removed Champagne from public ministry in 9/2006, giving him "a life of prayer and penance." On archdiocese's list of credibly accused in 1/15/2016. Worked in Kenmore, Seahurst, Seattle, Tacoma, Snohomish and Lakewood. In 1/2020 the archdiocese settled for $1.7M with someone claiming abuse in the 1980s. Another settlement 7/16/2020.

Listed on 6/11/14 by the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers (CFC) as accused by at least two persons in claims settled in bankruptcy proceedings. The order states that the merits of most of the claims settled in the bankruptcy were not tested. Chaney was added to a list of accused on the website of Boston attorney Garabedian on 10/31/14 after a settlement had been reached in the year previous. Assignments included Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell NJ, where the abuse alleged in the Garabedian case is said to have been committed. The 2014 Official Catholic Directory shows Chaney living at a Christian Brothers residence in West Park, in the NY archdiocese. Convicted abuser Bro Ronald Justin Lasik CFC and accused Bro John Laurence Heathwood CFC are also listed as residing there. Lawsuits in 3/21 by three former students allege abuse in the 1960s and '70s. Living in 3/21 in a CFC residence in New Rochelle.

Br. Francis P. Chapman

"Chappy." Reportedly in 2003, Chapman was accused of fondling at least one student at St. Francis Indian School on the Rosebud Reservation. The school principal said he remembered seeing Chapman with a boy on his lap, and said "I didn't like the possibilities. We asked him to leave." Documents show that in 1968 another priest stated "Chappy....[was] fooling around with little girls - he had them down the basement of our building in the dark, where we found a pair of panties torn." Chapman died 11/30/1990 and was buried at St. Francis. A 2011 article links him to abuse of multiple girls. By mid-2010, 6 plaintiffs were participating in litigation regarding Chapman. Cases dismissed by court in 1/2014. Included on the Rapid City diocese's list in 3/2019. On the Jesuits Midwest Province list 12/17/2018.

The Order counseled Chappell at the time but no written record of the complaint was made and no other actions were taken. Beginning in 2005 he was working as executive director of Augustinian Press.

Reportedly sued by two additional men alleging Charest molested and raped them as boys. Charest was living in Boston's Back Bay area near an elementary school as of 5/2008. Fr. Michael Joseph Charland

Report to the Archdiocese in 2002 that Charland sexually assaulted a boy, age 17, during confession while on Teens Encounter Christ retreat at a St. Paul parish in 1981. Charland was then campus ministry director at St. Thomas College in St. Paul MN. Left the order in 1984, married. Laicized 11/10/1989. Order released name as credibly accused 7/7/2015, and part of a 2/2015 settlement. In 7/2015 he was working as a therapist at a Woodbury MN counseling center. No longer listed on center's site 9/2015; professional license revoked. On Duluth diocese's list 12/3/2015; Springfield-Cape Girardeau diocese's updated list 4/1/2019. It notes abuse in the 1970s, reported in 2018. Charland's file shows that he was removed from his position of Assistant Principal and counselor at St. Henry's Prep Seminary in Belleville IL in 1/1977 because the rector learned he had fondled a boy during counseling while the boy was sitting naked on his lap, and had touched him sexually during other counseling sessions. Charland admitted the abuse. He was quickly and quietly transferred to St. Thomas College. Involved in Teens Encounter Christ in the St. Paul-Minneapolis archdiocese, among other dioceses, with the role of spiritual director. Continued to abuse boys during counseling sessions. Other documents created during the laicization process refer to additional victims and state that Charland's misconduct began before ordination. (The Springfield-Cape Girardeau diocese's list erroneously states that Charland died in 2004; it was accused priest Peter Charland who died in 2004.) On the Belleville diocese's list 9/20/2022. In 2/18 it was announced that eight people had filed claims with the diocese's IRCP, alleging sex abuse as children by Charland in the early 1970s. The eight were members of St. Phillip and James parish's "PJ Folk Singers". One man said the abuse started when he was age 11, and that it occurred in the rectory, Charland's car, and on a choir trip to Romania. Some families reportedly complained to the diocese about Charland's behavior in the mid-1970s. Appears to have left ministry by 1976. Went on to marry a woman with three sons and to work as a psychotherapist with children. Died in 2004. Accused in a suit filed in 8/19 of abuse 1972-76 of a boy, ages 13-18, who attended St. Phlliip and James. On diocese's list of accused in 3/21.

Monk of Mount Angel Abbey in Oregon. Worked at some point in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Accused by at least 15 people, women and men, of sexually abusing them as children in the late 1950s to the early 1970s. Accused in a 2002 lawsuit of abuse of a 7-year-old girl nearly 30 years prior. Sued also by a man claiming Charvet masturbated in front of him and used sexually explicit language when the man was age 14 in 1958. By 2006 the archdiocese had settled 13 cases. Charvet was recalled to the Abbey when the first allegation surfaced in 2002. Died in 10/2007. One case was to go to trial 2010.

Placed on leave 4/15/10 after recent allegations that he had engaged in sexual misconduct with a minor in around 1991 while he was an associate priest at St. Patrick church in Chesterton. Fr. Charles J. Chatt

May have sexually abused "dozens" of boys, per one alleged victim. Placed on leave in 7/1992 after allegations he sexually abused a 7th or 8th grade boy in 1970 or 1971. Chatt admitted to sexual contact with the boy and said it ended when the boy was age 20; admitted to "sexual relationships" with "five other youngsters" in the 1970s. Abuse said to have included oral and anal sex. Numerous people reported to the diocese abuse by Chatt as boys. First victim said Chatt gave him gifts, showed man/boy porn. Said to have taken nude photos of boys, also of a 6-year-old girl, with whom he allegedly took showers. Treated at St. Michael's in St. Louis MO. Hired to work there and at Vianney Renewal Center after treatment until about 1999. Later became a social worker. Formally withdrew from ministry in 1/2003. One, possibly two civil suits filed in 2004. Claims included in the diocese's 9/2007 $1.25M settlement involving 32 plaintiffs alleging abuse by 17 priests. Named in the 8/14/2018 PA Grand Jury Report and included on the diocese's list of credibly accused.

Fr. Jose Chavarin

From Mexico. Accused in 6/2008 of abusing three boys in San Diego in the 1980s. Placed on leave by the San Francisco archdiocese, where he worked for 11 years in the Metropolitan Tribunal. Chavarin denied the allegations when confronted, then fled to Mexico. Name added to San Diego diocese's list in 9/2018.

Accused in a lawsuit settled in late 2020 for $3.5M of sexually abusing an altar boy at St. Peter Martyr in Pittsburg CA, beginning when the boy was age 10 in 2003 and continuing for over ten years. The plaintiff's attorney said that Chavez had been accused of molesting minors in the 1990s while pastor of St. Leander in San Leandro, and that the diocese did not investigate. Further, she said Chavez was allowed to continue in active ministry for months after it received the new allegations in 10/19. Chavez's accuser, a former seminarian, alleged in 2019 rape several years prior by Rev. Michael Van Dinh, and abuse as a seminarian in OR by Rev. Luis Lopez.

Claims against Cherry and one other priest dismissed in 5/04 but son had filed individual suit in 2/04. The mother's remaining claims settled in 2/05 but the son's did not.

The Diocese learned on 7/19/2013 of an allegation that Cherup sexually abused a 15-year-old boy in 8/1993, while assigned to Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Pensacola. His conduct was described as  lewd and lascivious in nature, like "groping." The Diocesan Review Board found the allegation credible. Removed without privileges from St. Mary's in Fort Walton Beach 8/29/2013. Cherup denied all allegations. Included on the Diocese's list of credibly accused. Noted to have been permanently removed from ministry in 2013.

In later 2018 a man told the PA A.G. that Chaisson sexually abused him beginning when he was a 12-year-old altar boy at St. Margaret Mary in Harrisburg in the 1970s. He said the priest groomed him with gifts and special attention and that the abuse occurred over a three-year period, in the rectory and on a road trip to Novia Scotia. He said Chiasson rubbed his body with oil, plied him with alcohol, possibly drugged him, and took photos of him nude. Chaisson died in 4/22/99. Per his obituary, Chaisson was "heavily involved in youth ministry" at St. William's in Tewksbury, MA 1980-85, was a Navy chaplain 1987-90 and, for eight years until his death, was chaplain at Donovan State Prison in San Diego, CA. He was also assigned to Most Precious Blood parish in Chula Vista. Included on the Harrisburg diocese's list in 4/20.

Also known as C. Thomas Chleboski. Began to abuse boys prior to ordination. Removed from ministry 1990 after an allegation. Criminal charges in DC, VA and MD for the sexual abuse of two 13-year-old boys. Convicted in all three states. Sentenced to prison for 22 years and 15 years probation in 1991 in VA; also sentenced in MD. DC sentence unknown. Abused a child again after he was reported. The mother of a youth filed a civil suit. Voluntarily laicized in 1996. Out on probation and registered as sex offender as of 10/3/2010. Included on the harchdiocese's list 10/15/2018. Per his Linkedin account accessed in 12/2022, Chleboski went on to found a paralegal service.

Br. Thomas M. Chmura

Assigned to St. Benedict's Abbey in Benet Lake, WI on IL border. Arrested in 4/2013, charged with trying to abduct a 14-year-old girl in Antioch IL, and with disorderly conduct. Police saw him stop near three other girls. He fled and they arrested him the next day. Admitted approaching several girls over previous six weeks. Arrested again 5/3/2013 after children found at Abbey. Pleaded guilty 12/5/2013 to one count of child abduction. Sentenced to six months of periodic imprisonment, plus 24 months of felony probation. Had been sent previously to St. Luke institute for treatment related to viewing internet pornography. Living in 10/2022 in MO at a facility for troubled clergy. Included 1/24/2023 on the St. Benedict's Abbey list of credibly accused. 


Fr. Gregory Cholewa

Plaintiff said Chong would sexually abuse him after football practice in Chong's living quarters, sometimes plying him with alcohol. Also worked in the dioceses and archdioceses of Cleveland, Washington DC, Chicago. He was assigned 1997-2014 to a Carmelite Chapel at a Boston area mall. Died 10/21/2014. Included on the Carmelites' list 11/22/202. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report.

Fr. Joseph L. Chotin

Fr. William Anthony Christensen

Sued 2002 by a man alleging sexual abuse by Christensen and Bro. John J. Woulfe at Chaminade Prep in St. Louis, when the boy was ages 15-17 in 1973-75. Abuse allegedly included oral sex, anal sodomy, and viewing porn. Christensen not served with suit until 10/07. Plaintiff died in 2008; his family settled in 2011. Lived and worked in Bangladesh for 20 years, where he allegedly abused 30 Muslim children. Laicized in 2010; he appealed laicization. Reportedly still in Bangladesh in 6/18, running an NGO he founded in 2012. He had filed defamation lawsuits against one of his accusers and against a former nun who had reported him to his provincial.

Fr. Norman H. Christian

Sent to Paraclete Center for treatment in 1986. Arrested in St. Louis in 2003 on sexual abuse charges. Named in several civil suits filed in 2004 and 2005. The archdiocese admitted that it removed Christian from ministry in 1995 after at least eight boys had come forward with allegations of abuse. He lived in a "monitored environment" until his death 10/29/2004 and was buried as a priest in good standing. One suit settled in Fall 2004. Included on the archdiocese's list of those with substantiated allegations 7/26/2019.

On 5/8/2023 Bishop Vetter announced that the allegation could not be substantiated and Christofferson was to be reinstated.

Also known as Rev. V.J. Christudas. From India. Visiting priest at Church of the Visitation in Brick from 2001. Arrested 7/14/2012 and charged with criminal sexual contact of both an adult woman, her 5-year-old daughter, and her 13-year-old son. The woman complained to police on 7/13/2012 after the priest paid a visit to her home. Detectives found probable cause to file charges. Privileges removed by diocese. The woman filed civil suit 7/3/2014 on behalf of herself and her two children. Acquitted at criminal trial in 10/2014 of child molestation, found guilty of groping the woman. Sentenced to two years probation.

Lived in a Franciscan retirement home in Santa Barbara CA for many years. Retired. Reportedly in 2005, was living at Wounded Brothers (RECON), a Franklin County, MO home for troubled priests. Included on the Santa Barbara Province Franciscans' list 5/31/2019. It notes the sexual abuse of a minor in 1973 reported in 1990, and that Chumik was living in an 'elder care facility' in MO since 2004. Included in 8/2021 on the Fresno diocese's list of credibly accused.

Suit settled in 2003. Diocese paid $50K for the abuse claim. Accused of abuse in two additional suits filed in 2003. One accuser said the abuse occurred when he was an altar boy, ages 7-13, at Mary Queen of Heaven in Erlanger. Another claimed abuse at the same parish, 1967-1969, starting at age 12. Fr. Charles Cichanowicz

A man filed suit in 11/2007 in Navaho Nation District Court alleging Cichanowicz had given him alcohol and sexually abused him twice 1984-1985, when he was teen and Cichanowicz was assigned to Shiprock, NM. Shown in the Lafayette, IN diocese per 1989 OCD. Left Order in 1991; laicized in 1994. Worked as a counselor at Alpine Counseling in Lafayette, IN. Two more suits filed in 2009. Judge dismissed the 2007 suit; Navajo Superior Court reinstated it in 9/2011. All Plaintiffs settled in 7/2012. Agreed never to work with or around minors. Included on the Gallup diocese's list in 2015. On Lafayette IN list 9/28/2018 which notes, "Chuck Cichanowicz credible and substantiated in Gallup NM." Named publicly as accused by the Legionaries on 9/6/2018. Ordained in Dallas TX in 2008, transferred to the Archdiocese of Miami in 2015. Report to Child Protective Services in late 2016 of child sexual abuse. CPS could not substantiate the allegations. The Archdiocese removed Cieply from ministry after their internal review. Returned to the Legionaries. Cieply would not participate in the Order's investigation, claiming innocence. In 6/2018 the Order determined a "high probability" that abuse occurred and Cieply was not to return to ministry. He was dismissed from the Legionaries. Case sent to the Vatican, which in 2023 determined that it could not "reach moral certainty that abuse occurred." In 4/2023 Cieply remains a priest, but without faculties.

Had been a moral theology professor at St. Meinrad School of Theology for 17 years before resigning in 8/1996. Pleaded guilty in 12/1996 to a federal charge of receiving child pornography in the mail. Sentenced to one year and one day in a federal penitentiary, a $3000 fine, and two years' supervised release. Name appears on the Carmelites' 11/22/20 list of accused. Separated from the Order in 1996. From 1997-2011 he had no ministry, chose exclaustration and was a Federal Facility Prisoner in KY. He died 1/13/2011. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report, which shows at least one "reported survivor," of abuse.

Released from jail in 12/1995. A civil suit was filed and settled out of court in 1997, reported in 2002 to have been $550K. Previous allegations in the 1980s.On Sex Offender Registry. Settled in MO, married in 2001. Per his obituary, Cikovic "accepted [his wife's] three daughters as his own." Died 5/2/2022.

Minor seminary faculty member in OR and CA 1958-1970. Parish priest. Assigned 1970-1981 to a medical dispensary in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico in the Diocese of Ciudad Obregon. Treated at Servants of the Paraclete center 1981-1982. Admitted to mental health professionals to sexually abusing hundreds of boys. Accused in 1993 of abuse of boys at St. Anthony Minor seminary in Santa Barbara. Per the L.A. archdiocese, there were 12 accusers claiming abuse 1962-1969. One former St. Anthony's student said he reported attempted rape by Cimmarrusti to the seminary rector in 1965 and was expelled. Cimmarrusti is said to have required students to submit to his "examining" their genitalia for proper development, and hernia checks. He used embarrassment, humiliation and threats. His accusers describe violent spankings during which Cimmarrusti was clearly sexually aroused, after which he would pray for his victims while pressing their faces into his groin. They said he would then threaten them with eternal damnation. Named in a 2003 civil suit. Civil settlements in 3/2006.  Last known address was San Damiano Retreat House in Danville CA. Personnel file released in 5/2012. Died 11/23/2013. On Oakland diocese's list in 2019. On the Santa Barbara Province Franciscans list 5/31/2019. It notes allegations of the sexual abuse of minors 1962-1969 reported in 1993 and 2004. On the Diocese of Stockton's 12/2020 list, where he worked 1982-1985.

Fr. Dino Cinel

Historian and teacher at Tulane, living at St. Rita's in 1988 when a fellow priest found him with child porn and tapes he made of himself having sex with teenage boys in the rectory. Not known publicly for over two years. Cinel admitted to several years of sexual activity with minor boys, particularly in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Criminal charges filed in 1991 for possession of child porn; acquitted on a technicality in 8/1995. Had married a woman and had two children, taught at City U. of NY on Staten Island until suspended. Separated from wife. Ended up in Colombia. Laicized in 2010, divorced in 2015. One civil suit settled. Surfaced in Italy in 2011, claiming sexual abuse as a child and petitioning the Vatican for justice. Murdered 2/1/2018 in Medellin, Colombia by an 18-year-old male who said he was Cinel's lover. Included on the archdiocese's list 11/2/2018.

Fr. Joseph Cinesi

Per news in 9/1999, a man told police in 7/1998 that Cinesi had had sexual contact with him about 100 times when he was between 12- and 15-years-old in the late 1970s- early 1980s. The Diocese settled at least five claims and/or lawsuits against Cinesi between 1999 and 2001. Another civil suit was filed in 5/2004 alleging abuse of a boy in 1978-1979. It settled in 9/2004.

Fr. Martin A. Cingle

Per the PA A.G.'s 3/1/16 Grand Jury Report, in 1979 Cingle fondled a sleeping 15-year-old altar boy who awoke and struck him, as told to Bishop Adamec by the victim in a 6/02 meeting. Adamec met with Cingle in 7/02, who said he couldn't remember why, but acknowledged the boy struck him. Adamec sent Cingle for a psych evaluation; it yielded "no evidence of psychopathology." He did not report the matter to law enforcement. Cingle was returned to ministry. Adamec asked the victim to put in writing what occurred in 1979; the victim did not comply and case was closed 6/03. In 9/15 Cingle admitted to the Grand Jury that he was lying next to the boy on a cot in his underwear and a t-shirt on the night in question, and indicated he could have accidentally touched the boys genitals. Per the A.G.'s request, Bishop Bartchak removed Cingle from active ministry in 10/15.

The archdiocese announced in 10/2021 that Ciomek would be reinstated due to insufficient evidence of abuse.

In 1978 a woman told police Cipolla abused her sons, ages 9 and 12. Charges dropped after harassment of mother and pressure by church. Reassigned. Accused in 1988 of abuse for over four years of a 13- to 17-year-old boy. Diocese said allegations unfounded. Accuser filed report with D.A. Cipolla was suspended and sent to St. Luke's for evaluation; he refused recommended treatment at St. John Vianney Center. Went to St. Michael's in NYC as an outpatient. Accuser filed suit in 10/1992; settled in 9/1993. Bishop Wuerl removed Cipolla's faculties in 9/1990. Cipolla appealed to Rome; Wuerl was ordered to reinstate him. Wuerl appealed; decision reversed in 1995. Cipolla continued to present as a priest against orders. He was laicized 9/19/2002. Continued to act as a priest. Died 8/30/2016 in Warren OH, where he had been living. On the Youngstown diocese's list 10/29/2018. Included on the Pittsburgh diocese's list of credibly accused. Two claims settled in 2020 in the low six figures.

Fr. Harlan B. Clapsaddle

Removed from ministry in 2002. Accused of inappropriately touching three brothers over three years, beginning in 1977. Their mother reported the abuse to the Diocese in 1993. Clapsaddle denied the allegations, which the Diocese accepted. The brothers contacted the Diocese in 12/1996; he was removed from his parish in 1/1997 and sent for treatment. Reassigned in 11/1997, as chaplain to a nursing home in a "monitored setting." The Diocese paid the three victims a total of $80K. In 3/2002 he was removed from the nursing home assignment after a new claim, of abuse over three years in the mid-1980s. Nursing home officials said they knew nothing about his past record. On diocese's list 11/14/2018. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report, which notes 6 "reported survivors." Died in 2018.

At that time, a woman said she reported to his associate pastor in 1967 that Clarahan had abused a male friend of hers on a school trip. He did nothing and told her no one would believe her. Clarahan transferred to another parish in 1978 and then to MD in 1983. Removed from ministry in 1993. Died in 5/1999. Three separate suits filed in 10/2008 alleged abuse in the 1950s and 1960s. Two brothers filed suit in 12/2008. Personnel file released in 2/2012.

Fr. Daniel C. Clark

Convicted in 2003 of abusing two brothers, starting when they were ages 11 and 12, from 1998 to 5/2002. Sentenced to 10 years in prison. Laicization announced in 11/2004. Sentence overturned in 5/2007. Pleaded guilty in 11/2007 in return for release from prison, with 5 years' probation and 5 years' court supervision. In 2002 it was revealed that the Archdiocese paid $30K in 1998 to settle allegations against Clark. He was investigated and cleared by Louisville County Police. Based on that and a psychological assessment of Clark, the Archdiocese decided no abuse occurred, but offered the alleged victim a financial settlement because of "difficulties he was facing in his life" and because Clark had cared for him for years after juvenile court placed the boy in his custody.

Monsignor. Ordained in Ireland. Arrived in Corpus Christi diocese in 1968, incardinated in 1975. Suit filed in 4/2010 alleged Clarke molested three altar boys 1972-1975 while assigned to Christ the King in Corpus Christi. He would frequently drive through the low-income housing near the parish and pick up altar boys to help him do projects at the church. Some of the abuse occurred during these "projects." Documents show allegations of child sexual abuse in the mid-1980s, and that he would take three teens to Mexico where there was sexual abuse, drugs, alcohol and visits to brothels. Sent to treatment at Renewal, Rest and Re-Creation in Alexandria VA, diagnosed with pedophilia, then returned to ministry. Later elevated to monsignor. Retired in 1997 and moved to Ireland, where he died 12/16/2002. Suit settled for $1.2M 7/12/2011. On Corpus Christi diocese's list 1/31/2019. Added to Raleigh diocese's list on 5/29/2019; arrived in the US as a Carmelite priest in 1965 and assigned to Immaculate Conception in Hendersonville NC, now in the Charlotte diocese. Added to the Charlotte diocese's list in 2/2020.

Fr. Joseph Gibbs Clauder

Placed on leave without privileges in 1999 after an allegation of sexual misconduct with an adult woman. She sued the diocese for negligent supervision for not monitoring his conduct after misconduct with another woman. In early 2009, a 20-year-old woman alleged that Clauder sexually abused and threatened her in 2003-04. In 8/10 the diocesan review board found her allegations "credible and probable." Rome ordered a canonical trial at the conclusion of civil matters. Sentenced to a life of prayer and penance. Acquitted in 12/11 criminal trial.

Fr. Joseph L. Clauss

Had been living for 11 years in the Servants of the Paraclete treatment facility in Jemez Springs, NM; not allowed to leave without supervision. Per one source in 2002, Clauss was an "incurable pedophile" and had recently been soliciting money from former parishioners who believed he was doing mission work on Indian reservations. Another allegation surfaced 5/02. Clauss died 10/11/03. On the diocese's list 2/22/19. It notes 10 credible allegations and that he admitted to at least 1. Administrative leave 12/90, removed from public ministry 7/92.

Fr. Christopher R. Clay

One Bishop said he was cleared to work but Bishop Martino said he was still suspended pending investigation. In 1/12, Bishop Vann of Ft Worth said he was barred from all church property and had no faculties in TX. Included in the 8/14/18 PA Grand Jury Report. On diocese's list 8/19/18.

Fr. Donald M. Cleary

The NE A.G.'s report in 11/21 notes five victims, all altar boys, ages 8-16, abused in the 1970s and 1980s. All five reported their abuse to the diocese in 2018. Cleary stated that the abuse "likely" occurred. No prosecution due to the statute of limitations. Laicized in 2019.

Per a 2019 report commissioned by the diocese, there were two victims, both girls ages 8-10, of abuse 1945-1954.

Clements admitted to a reporter in 1994 that he had been the subject of rumors of sexual misconduct. In 8/2019 he was suspended from ministry pending the investigation of an allegation that he sexually abused a child, ages 7-12, 1974-1979. Clements died in 11/2019. The alleged victim received a settlement from the archdiocese in 2/2022. Another man who accused Clements of sexually abusing him as a boy received a settlement, as announced in 4/2022 by Attorney Mitchell Garabedian. 


Fr. Delma Clemons

Accused along with two other priests of abuse of a girl in the 1960s. The alleged victim settled with the Diocese in 1999 for $41K. In 2003 she died by suicide. Her family returned the settlement and filed suit on her behalf, saying she didn't have the capacity to enter into settlement. She had been hospitalized several times. The Diocese said she was 18 at the time of the 'relationship' and that it was consensual. Clemons was retired as of 11/2009. He died in 2/2021.

Worked in San Antonio 1959-1992. The archdiocese revealed in 2019 that there were seven allegations, six of the in 2011, dating to the 1990s. In 2002 Clerx was accused of sexually abusing a child in the early 1960s. He admitted to the abuse. Died 12/17/03. In 1/11, four sisters filed suit against the San Antonio archdiocese, alleging that Clerx molested them; one said he raped her repeatedly 1988-1992. The girls were minors and he was assigned to St. John Berchman's in San Antonio. Their mother worked for parish. Clerx gave the girls special privileges and visited them when mother was at work. One of the women reported the abuse to the Archdiocese in 2010. On archdiocese's list 1/31/19.

Arrested 2005 in TX, charged with groping a 16-year-old boy in a movie theater. Criminal trial in 9/08 ended in mistrial. New trial was to be held 12/08, but did not take place. Died in Austin 7/29/12. On diocese's list 1/31/19.

Fr. Kevin Clohessy

Assigned to Student Center at Northeast MO State Univ in 1993 when a student claimed that Clohessy had sexually abused him. Diocese substantiated claim, removed him from active priesthood, and sent him for treatment. Reassigned to new parish in 1995; took voluntary leave in 2000. A 2003 civil suit alleged abuse of one minor boy by Clohessy and a second priest. Clohessy allegedly abused the boy 1984-1993. As of 11/18 Clohessy had not been laicized. On diocese's list 11/8/18.

Fr. John A. Close

Monsignor. One of 21 priests placed on leave by archdiocese 3/7/2011 pending investigation for credible allegations involving sexual abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors. Last served as pastor at St. Katharine of Siena in Wayne. In 1998, a man who was in prison for murder accused Close of abusing him as a boy on several occasions in 1969-1970. No action. Close denied the allegations. In 4/2011, another man claimed abuse in 1992-1994. Found suitable for ministry 7/6/2012 after the Review Board determined misconduct claims against him were unsubstantiated. Died 3/6/2018. In 8/2023 the Archdiocese agreed to a $3.5M settlement with a man, age 30, who claimed Close sexually assaulted him at age 14 in 2006. The man said the rape occurred during confession at St. Katherine's of Sienna, and that Close threatened him with eternal damnation if he told.

Fr. Edmond G. Cloutier

Ordained for the Diocese of Portland, ME. Accused in lawsuits of sexually abusing four boys at Star of the Sea in San Francisco late 1940s-1957. Became a priest of the Oakland diocese when it was created in 1962. Removed/retired 12/31/1980. Died 4/9/2003. Included on the Oakland diocese's list in 2019, abuse noted to have occurred in the 1950s-1960s. On the Stockton diocese's list, which notes he was a supply priest in approximately the mid-1980s, and that his faculties were revoked there 12/20/1990.

Fr. William J. Cloutier

Accused of sexually abusing at least three boys in 1979. Kept in ministry. Removed in 1991, sent to an archdiocesan retreat house at Mundelein Seminary. A civil suit filed in 1991 claimed abuse in 1979. Admitted abuse and that after 14 years of therapy still used his position to abuse. New allegation in 2002. Part of a large 2003 settlement involving 12 priests. Left the priesthood in 1994. Died in 8/2003. Also included in a 10/2005 settlement by the Archdiocese involving multiple priests. Personnel file released in 1/2014. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report, which notes 23 "reported survivors."

Br. Robert Coakley

Diocese: Archdiocese of Newark NJ

A/k/a Br. Edmund. Scoutmaster and teacher. Accused of abuse of of two brothers, one of whom died by suicide at age 12. Coakley died in 1988. Civil suit filed and appealed to NJ Supreme Court. Dismissed because of NJ Charitable Immunity Act. Coakley's name appeared in the Boy Scout Perversion files released in 2012.

Br. Alan S. Cobb

Listed by the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers as accused by at least two persons in claims settled in bankruptcy proceedings. Cobb was listed as a 'former' brother as of 6/11/2014. The Christian Brothers did not provide assignment information; until we are able to establish assignments and location of the alleged abuse, we have placed Cobb in the Archdiocese of Chicago. The Christian Brothers state that the merits of most of the claims settled in the bankruptcy were not tested.

Fr. Richard J. Cochrane

Arrested in 1999 for assault of a 14-year-old boy during a trip to the Poconos. Cochrane was a teacher at Malvern Prep School. Another person came forward to allege the same type of abuse in 1990. Pleaded no contest to statutory rape charge in 1/03 regarding the first boy after PA appellate court ruled that the second student could testify at trial. Sentenced in 7/03 to 18-48 months in jail. In 7/03, the archdiocese settled a civil suit filed by the first youth. New suit 2/14/11.

Fr. Carlos B. Cocio

Per a 6/2002 statement from the Diocese, Cocio was suspended form ministry in 1993 after allegations of sexual misconduct with an adult. Also in 1993, a parent made an allegation to the Diocese concerning child sexual abuse that had been reported to the sheriff in 1989. The sheriff decided not to prosecute, but a report was given to the Diocese at that time. Still on leave per the 2002 Catholic Directory. Accused in a federal lawsuit filed in 12/2020 against the Diocese of Tucson, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and St. John's Seminary in Camarillo CA of raping a teenage boy repeatedly over several days in 1980. The boy allegedly told his parish priests in Nogales and one of them, Msgr. Walter Rosensweig, laughed at him and later also abused him. Included on the diocese's list of credibly accused. Laicized in 2012. In 4/2021 Cocio is reportedly deceased.

Born in Wales, U.K. Worked in Peoria for many years as a chaplain at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria , and  on faculty of Corpus Christi High School in Galesburg. Died in 1964. In 2011 a woman publicly alleged that Cody abused her and other girls in the 1950s when she was a 12-year-old polio patient at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. She said that when she complained to the nurses, she was told to be quiet or the nurse could lose her job. At some point in the past she refused an offer of $17K in exchange for gag agreement.

Fr. Michael J. Cody

Admitted in 1988 to sexually abusing about 20-40 prepubescent girls and 1 boy, most recently several years prior. His personnel file shows multiple male victims. The Seattle archdiocese was informed in 1962 that Cody had molested at least 8 girls and was sent to Institute of Living in CT for treatment. Assigned to 6 parishes during the next 15 years, 1964-1979, then put on leave as unassignable. Moved to FL in 1988. Sought ministry in the Orlando diocese; faculties denied by Seattle. He proposed laicization but Seattle did not pursue. Moved to the Las Vegas NV area. On recommendation of the Review Board, laicized in 2005. One suit settled for $1.2M on 5/17/2015 during trial. The Archdiocese settled with 8 women for $9.1M as announced 3/23/2016. Of them, Cody abused 6 when assigned to a Burlington WA parish 1968-1972, and 2 while assigned in Bellingham 1972-1975. He died in 2015. Included on archdiocese's list 1/15/2016. Another settlement was announced by the Seattle archdiocese 11/2018.
