Prior to seminary spent over seven years as a brother of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, leaving that order to join the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary for several years. Died 4/28/96. Accused after his death of the sexual abuse of a child. Name included on the Harrisburg diocese's list of accused released 8/1/18.

Accused in 2005 of abuse of a 13-year-old boy in 1964 at Most Holy Redeemer in Westville Grove. (This was D'Amico's first assignment.) Placed on leave in 5/2005. Permanently removed in 10/2005. Died in 6/2010 at age 71. On the diocese's list 2/13/2019.

Accused in 1991 of abusing a 10-year-old girl on two occasions about eight years prior while a Navy chaplain. Settled.

Pastor of Our Lady of the Snow in Blue Point when placed on leave in 4/11 "in accordance with the Dallas Charter." Still shown on administrative leave as of 10/13/13. Accused in a lawsuit filed in 8/19 of abuse 1975-78 of a minor, ages 15-18. Alleged victim was a student and parishioner of St. Barnabas in Bellmore. Also named was Rev. John Mahoney, accused of abuse of the child 1971-74. Included on the diocese's list of accused in 3/21. Abuse allegedly occurred at St. Barnabas, Pius X Seminary in Uniondale, Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, motels, D'Andrea's family member's home in Ronkonkoma and a private home in Craryville.

D'Angelo (DeAngelo) included on the archdiocese's 10/2009 Priests and Policy Status Report. It notes that his "situation" was "previously handled under the archdiocesan policy" and that he is deceased. He died 12/8/1998. Per the archdiocese's list of credibly accused 6/10/2019, D'Angelo had been removed from publicly ministry.

Fr. Rocco Charles D’Angelo

The Miami Archdiocese knew in 1966-1967 that D'Angelo had molested at least 4-5 boys. The boys and their parents confronted church officials, and were promised he would go away and never work with kids again. D'Angelo went for therapy and then on to new assignments in the St. Petersburg Diocese. Numerous suits were filed in Miami and Tampa. Several settled; others were dismissed on the statute of limitations. Per the 11/6/2020 FL Attorney General's report, D'Angelo was "retired" in 1994 after an allegation. He died in 2005. One man who settled in 1998 sued again in 2002, alleging fraud on the part of Archdiocese. Settled in 4/2009.

Fr. Aloysius Joseph D’Silva

Named publicly as accused by the diocese on its list 12/29/19. The diocese received a report in 1998 from a teenage girl who said D'Silva touched and kissed her at St. Bernadette Catholic Mission in Linville. He denied the allegation. The diocese said at the time that it could not substantiate the allegation. It was found credible after a 2019 file review. D'Silva died in 2005.

A man filed a 2004 amended pleading in his civil suit against Fr. Matthew Kelly alleging that at least 31 clergymen abused youths in Santa Barbara, CA and at St. Anthony's Seminary. Pleadings name da Silva as the first Santa Barbara perpetrator of child sexual assault and says that he abused an altar boy in 1936-1937 at the seminary. The source cited is a statement by the alleged victim. Fr. da Silva died in 1967. Included on the Santa Barbara Province Franciscans list 5/31/2019. On the Las Cruces diocese's list 6/24/2019, where he worked 1957-1964. (Name misspelled de Silva). Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report.

Fr. Bernard Dabbene

 In 1959 a 9th grade boy at Salesian High School in Richmond CA reported to Dabbene's superior that Dabbene had molested him twice. Dabenne was then a lay brother and a teacher at the school. Dabbene then "left [the boy] alone" and  went on to become principal at Salesian schools, and an official with the San Francisco archdiocese. In 1971 allegations were reported to the Diocese of Oakland (formerly part of the SF archdiocese). In 11/2000 Dabbene was arrested after he was found in a car with 17-year-old boy, both with their pants unzipped. Found guilty. Sentenced to three years probation and community service. Sent to St. John Vianney in Philadelphia for treatment. Named in a 2003 civil suit which alleged he was part of a ring of child molesters at Salesian High School 1969-1973. Lived at the Salesian provincial headquarters for years. Died 9/9/2010. Included on the Oakland diocese's list in 2019.


Deacon Rosendo F. Dacal

Ordained a permanent deacon in 2011. Arrested 4/10/2018 on charges related to sending and soliciting obscene images from an undercover police officer he thought was a 14-year-old boy. Suspended from assignments at All Saints parish in Etna and Allegheny County Jail. Taught in OH in the 1960s and 1970s at Steubenville Catholic Central High. Pleaded guilty in 10/2018. Sentenced in 1/2019 to two years' probation and 100 hours of community service. Ordered to register as a sex offender for 25 years. Included on the diocese's list of accused.

Br. John H. Dagwell

Br. Aloysius. Joined the Xaverians in 1962. Per Boston personnel files released 1/2003, Dagwell pleaded guilty in 1988 to molesting a student in Newark, NJ; others also complained. Sentenced to probation and ordered to stay away from children. Fired from his position as teacher and coach at a parochial school. Transferred to Boston; may have abused there. Left the order in 2002. Worked for 15 years at Keiser University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Included on the Xaverians' list 7/12/2019. Died in 3/2020. Lawsuit filed in 7/2020. Accused in a new suit filed in 10/2021.

Name on 12/9/13 list of monks likely to have offended against minors released by Abbey. Also on St. Paul list and St. Cloud list. St. Paul personnel file released 5/19/14. Worked in Owensboro KY diocese in 1964.

Fr. Paul Daleo

Accused of molesting two youths. Confronted with allegations in 1993 and sent for treatment. Reassigned to an office job. Left the Order in 2003. One confidential settlement for $100K in 1995; another in 1996. Two new civil suits were filed in 2008 and two other accusers known. Living in Jersey City in 11/2008 and performing baptisms, funeral rites and weddings. Another civil suit was filed in 3/2009. Nine accusers settled in 11/2011 as part of a $7M total settlement. Reportedly in one case, Daleo abused a 4th grade boy in the 1970s, continuing for 4 years.

Pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle 1977-2002. Retired in 2002. Taught previously at Catholic Central High School. Was also an instructor at Mater Christi Seminary and diocesan vocations director. Accused in a lawsuit filed 7/26/21 under the NY Child Victims Act of sexually abusing a 15-year-old in 1974. Per the diocese, Daley maintained his innocence.

Many sporatic assignments and leaves. Accused in 2002 of abuse of a boy 1957-1963. Excardinated from the L.A. Archdiocese in 1976. Apparently remained active in the Diocese of Orange as well as in Baja and other remote places. The L.A. Archdiocese Report in 2004 notes six accusers. Named in at least one civil suit which settled in 2006. Died 4/8/2000, per personnel file released by L.A. archdiocese in 1/2013.

Br. Frank Luke Dalton

Entered the Order in 1955. Worked in British Columbia, Palma HS in Salinas CA 1964-1969, 1988-1999. Tutored and counseled migrant labor camp children; held camp for preteen migrant labor camp children via Franciscan Workers. Was commissioner on Monterey County Juvenile Justice Commission. Also at CFC schools in Butte, MT; Joliet, IL; Burbank, IL, Bloomfield Hills, MI; Cantwell High School, Montebello, CA. Taught and coached sports. Died 1/11/2001. A man testified in a MI state hearing on the statute of limitations in 5/2018 that Dalton abused him at Brother Rice High School in Bloomfield Hills MI about 40 years prior, when he was a student and Dalton was principal. He said abuse included Dalton grooming him with gifts, spitting in his mouth during a private wrestling session, grabbing his testicles another time in Dalton's car, biting him on the ear. The man said Dalton was transferred to CA after admitting that he'd had a "wet dream" about the boy.

Fr. John Joseph Daly

From Ireland. Arrived in the San Diego diocese in 1958. Accused of sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy at St. Joseph's in Holtville in 1977. He allegedly picked up the boy and a friend, who were hitchhiking, offered them a place to stay then orally copulated the boy during the night. The boys ran off and went to the police that night. Daly was arrested. Case was dropped after bishop visited the D.A. Diocese moved Daly out of the area. Had two prior arrests for sexual molestation in La Mesa and San Bernardino. Retired in 1987. Died 10/17/89. Civil suit filed in 2002. Moved several times by diocese. Case set for trial in 3/07 but dismissed by judge in 1/07. Name was NOT on list of abusive priests released by San Diego Diocese in 3/07. Personnel file released 10/25/10.

Fr. Manus Daly

Removed from active ministry in 3/02 on past allegations that he abused a student at St. Thomas Aquinas seminary. Student said Daly, dean of students, tried to seduce him once, on a trip to Belleville. His accuser complained to the Diocese in 1996 about Daly, Fr. John Fischer, AND (later Bishop) Anthony J. O'Connell. The diocese paid a $125K settlement to the man in 1996. On diocese's list 11/8/18.

Privileges permanently revoked 6/2002 because of past allegations of sexual abuse. Daly was originally placed on leave in 1994 because of a credible allegation of sexual misconduct with minors. In 1996 he began working as a chaplain for the Felician Sisters in restricted ministry. Permanently barred by the Vatican from public ministry in 5/2005. Died 1/30/2012 at age 63.

Accused of abuse with numerous other priests in a 1/2005 lawsuit. Placed on leave in 1984 after four years at St. Anne's in Readville. On 6/13/2011, the archdiocese announced that Daly had been voluntarily laicized and stated that "he was accused of sexually abusing minors occurring in the 1970s and early 1980s," when he was assigned in Brockton, Plymouth (briefly), and Readville. Working as school psychologist at Silver Lake Regional High School in Kingston MA when laicization announced. Placed on leave by school after it learned of early civil suit. Was expected to retire at year's end. The Boston archdiocese database in 8/2011 says case concluded canonically.

Fr. Nelson C. Damasco

Damasco was a priest of the Nueva Segovia diocese in the Philippines. Associate pastor 9/1/80 to 1/1/82 in the San Diego diocese, which listed him on 3/30/07 as credibly accused. San Diego list states that he then 'left diocese to return to Philippines' but Official Catholic Directories 1983-1984 list him as Army reserve chaplain on active duty, though omitted from index. Reportedly stationed at Fort Hood in the Austin TX diocese. Directories 1980-1981 show that before San Diego he worked briefly in Jersey City at St Mary's in the Newark archdiocese. Died 9/1/88.

Deacon Joseph Damiani

In public announcements in 11/12, Damiani's two younger brothers alleged that he abused them between 1967-70 when he was a teenager and they were children. Over the years, they had demanded Damiani resign from his deacon duties but he refused. After the public disclosures and complaints to the Archdiocese, Joseph Damiani filed suit 1/13 against both brothers & SNAP for defamation. Both younger brothers countersued him. Suit later settled. Archdiocese reopened its investigation in 6/14 to clarify certain facts and determined that he would be temporarily removed from his duties. On 10/26/14 Archbishop Nienstedt announced that he was accepting his Clergy Review Board's determination that Damiani was fit for ministry. Archbishop Nienstedt ended Damiani's leave of absence and restored his faculties, declaring him a 'Deacon in good standing.'

Removed from ministry in 11/2018 due to an allegation a year prior that he rubbed a fourth-grade girl's leg during confession at St. Mary's in Humboldt. The Diocese reported the incident to the county attorney in 12/2017. The Diocese's review board determined that the incident was inappropriate but was not sexual abuse.

Fr. Richard Daschbach

Ordained for the SVD's Chicago Province. Pittsburgh PA native. At Catholic U. in Washington DC and hospital chaplain at Fort Belvoir VA 1964-1966. Went to Timor, Indonesia in 1966 where he spent the next five-plus decades. Accused in early 2018 of sexually abusing at least two dozen girls at Topu Honis Shelter Home, which he founded in 1993. Child pornography also involved. Admitted the allegations to police. Laicized 11/06/2018. Refused to leave the orphanage and still saying mass, per SVD Superior General in 2/2019. Arrested 4/26/2019. Released on house arrest. Trial started in 3/2021, postponed to 5/2021 due to covid-19, then to 6/7/2021. Reportedly threatened the life of the human rights lawyer representing the victims in 7/2021, at the district court. Indicted by a federal grand jury in Washington D.C. 8/26/2021, charged with 7 counts of illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place. Found guilty in 12/2021 and sentenced to 12 years in prison. 


Fr. Francis J. Daubert

Spent priesthood in China, Hawaii, New York, Missouri. Accused in a lawsuit settled in 3/2016 of raping a 12-year-old altar boy at Good Shepherd in Honomu HI in 1967, while filling in for the pastor. Daubert was said to have tied the boy with ropes in a "game," then sodomized and assaulted him for 6 hours. The accuser said he told his mother that night; she called the parish and a priest came to speak with her and the boy's father. Daubert was moved from the parish. He continued in ministry. The same lawsuit alleged sexual abuse of the boy years later by Rev. Anthony Pascale and Rev. William Queenan at St. Stephen's Diocesan Seminary in Kaneohe. Daubert died 5/22/1983.

Deacon Robert Davalle

Ordained a permanent deacon in 1986, assigned to Christ the King in Richland. Volunteer with middle and high school students at the parish beginning 1978. In 6/2017 a 15-year-old girl told her youth group leader that Davalle molested her when she was younger. Davalle was arrested 6/27/2017, and charged with molesting the girl and her sister 8 or 9 years prior, when they were ages 8-12. Davalle admitted to the abuse, and said he sexually assaulted another girl, about age 10. Pleaded guilty in 5/2018. Sentenced in 9/2018 to a minimum of more than five years in prison. Included on the diocese's list 7/9/2019. It notes the abuse was in "non-ministerial settings."

Monsignor. Named publicly as accused on the diocese's list 12/4/18. Parish priest, Vicar General 1982-86. Allegations reported 5/2/02 to the diocese that Davich slept in bed with a minor 1979-85. He retired without faculties 8/02 and was ordered by the Vatican to a life of prayer and penance. Reported in 2012 to be living in CA.

Fr. Glenn Michael Davidowich

Member of the Passaic Eparchy of the Byzantine Catholic Church. Identified in 2002 as founder of a website featuring videos of teenage boys wrestling in speedo swimsuits. Eparchy did nothing. Placed on leave in 2011 when a man accused Davidowich of abusing him as a boy at St. Mary the Assumption in Trenton in the late 1980s-early 1990s, beginning when the man was 15. The Eparchy paid the alleged victim $200K in 6/2011 to settle claims before suit filed. Living in WI in 2011. Another settlement 6/29/2013. Laicized 4/2/2013.

Fr. Carl Davidson

In 3/2004 a man reportedly said Davidson tried to molest him as a boy in 1980 during an overnight stay at the St. John Vianney Prep school rectory in New Orleans. Davidson was a music teacher at the school. The man said he told his parents and school officials. Apparently no action until 2002, after the man and a second accuser each went to the Archdiocese about past abuse. Davidson was removed and "retired." Included on the archdiocese's list 11/2/2018, which notes  an allegation received in 1989 of abuse in the early 1980s. Davidson died in 2007. Settlement in 8/2019 for $150K plus $10K for counseling with a man claiming abuse by Davidson when he was a teenager in the mid-1980s, during sleepovers at Notre Dame Seminary.

Fr. Frank L. Davied

In 2013 a man told the Franciscans that Davied molested him as a child decades prior, while the priest was assigned to Our Lady of Good Harbor in Buras, LA. In 10/2020 Davied was no longer a Franciscan and was living in Pueblo, CO. He denied the allegation. On the Las Cruces diocese's list in 11/2020, where he worked 1993-1995. Added to the New Orleans archdiocese's list in 12/2020. Included 5/19/2021 on the Santa Fe archdiocese's list. On the Cincinnati archdiocese's list in 2/2022. Included in 6/2022 on the St. John the Baptist Province Franciscans list of those with substantiated allegations. Included on the Franciscans' Our Lady of Guadalupe Province list as of 1/2024; noted to have been laicized.

Fr. Joseph A. Davies

Monsignor. Parish priest, prep school chaplain, prison chaplain, archdiocesan Director of Catholic Boy Scouts, active in Volunteers for America, where he worked at two facilities for children. Died 2/3/1992. In 1993 the archdiocese received multiple allegations of child sexual abuse against Davies. Resigned in 1990 due to about his use of funds at St. Joseph Parish. One man alleged abuse in the 1960s at St. Joseph's in Hagerstown. The allegations were not announced publicly until 8/13/2015 in an archdiocesan press release, which stated a man alleged abuse by Davies as a child in the 1950s. The statement acknowledged there were other allegations, without elaborating. On archdiocese's 12/14/2018 list; it notes numerous allegations of child sex abuse received against Davies. Included in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General's Report. It notes that Davies sexually abused, including rape, at least eight boys in the 1950s and 1960s.


Fr. Johnny Davila

The archdiocese was notified in 12/93 that Davila had been accused of sexually abusing two girls. Arrested. Pled guilty. Sentenced to 7 years probation; ordered by court to undergo weekly counseling for an indefinite period. Laicized in 1999. Lifetime sex offender registration per website accessed 10/16/10. On archdiocese's list 1/31/19.

Fr. Charles J. Davis

Accused in 2002 of sexually abusing a boy during his first assignment 1962-1964. Transferred three times in three years: to another Camden parish, to a Trenton parish as an extern, and to a missionary assignment in Brazil. Army reserve chaplain 1967-1970; on leave for a year; Camden parishes 1971-1974; Army chaplain 1974-1992; Camden parish for a year. On duty outside the diocese 1992-1999 in FL and NH, then retired. Camden asked Vatican to defrock Davis; matter was sent back to Camden for church tribunal. Included on the diocese's list of accused 2/13/19.

The abuse allegedly occurred during a week-long altar boy training program at St. James, during which the accuser and another boy were staying with Davis. Davis died in 5/2020.

Fr. Stephen F. Dawber

Dawber and two other Jesuits at Boston College High School were accused of molesting several students in the 1970s. He is also alleged to have arranged to have one of the other Jesuits, James Talbot, transferred with him to Cheverus High in Maine where Talbot abused again. Dawber is not known to have abused at Cheverus before returning to Boston College High. He was suspended in 3/2002 from his position at the school. Died 4/29/2010.  Included in 1/2019 on the Northeast Province Jesuits' list of credibly accused. On the Fall River diocese's list in 1/2021, where he worked at Bishop Connolly High School 1985-1990.

Placed on sick leave in 1993 after allegations. Sent to the Servants of the Paraclete for treatment. On inactive leave in 1995. Accused of abuse of at least 10 in 1970s-1980s. Supported by the Archdiocese for many years; never reported to police. Named in at least one lawsuit. Personnel file released in 1/2013 as part of a 2007 $660M settlement with 508 plaintiffs.

As part of the Davenport diocese bankruptcy, a woman alleged sexual abuse as a child by Dawson and two other priests. She said the priests were her dad's friends and that the it occurred in separate incidents when she was ages 4-7, beginning in 1969. The review board reportedly told her the allegations were credible and she received a settlement. The Diocese refused to list the names of these 3 and 15 other priests on their website, saying the allegations were not proven. The woman filed a motion in Bankruptcy Court 7/19/2012 to force addition of the 3 names to Diocese's public list;  in 8/2012 the Court ruled in her favor. Dawson died 12/13/2011.

Day is noted on the list to have left the order in 1962. May or may not have been a Franciscan brother. No evidence found that he was a priest.

From the diocese of San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico. Arrived in the Archdiocese of Detroit MI in 2/2004. Accused in 6/2004 of fondling a 7-year-old boy. Arrested in 8/2004 and arraigned on two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct. Admitted to being drunk in the boys' family's home and sleeping in his underwear with the boy. Acquitted by jury trial in 1/2005 but still barred from duties while archdiocese continued internal investigation. Apparently returned to his home diocese in Mexico. On the Detroit archdiocese's list 6/10/2019, which notes that de Alba Campos was briefly an extern priest there, then transferred out.

Fr. Dominic De Domenico

Reportedly in 2005, De Domenico was accused of a "manipulative" relationship with a girl in Anchorage, with the crossing of sexual boundaries when she was age 15 in the mid-1970s, then kissing and fondling beginning when she was age 16 and continuing into adulthood. De Domenico was in the archdiocese 1976-1981. Archdiocesan officials knew in at least 1987. The Dominicans' Sexual Misconduct Committee recommended his return to ministry. In 2005 he was not in public ministry and was living at a Dominican seminary in Oakland, CA. He also worked in the Oakland diocese. Included on the Holy Name Province Dominicans list in 10/2021. Noted to be living a live of prayer and penance under supervision with a safety plan.

Extern priest from the diocese of Cali, Colombia. Worked in the San Diego Diocese 1962-1963. Accused of abusing children of migrant workers. Arrested in 8/1963. San Diego Bishop Buddy told the Diocese of Cali that if de Francisco left the US and never returned, charges would be set aside. De Francisco was delivered the the border at Tijuana, Mexico and told to return to Cali. Included on the San Diego diocese's list of priests with credible allegations released 3/30/2007. Personnel file released 10/24/2010. Also worked in TX and FL. Included on the Galveston-Houston archdiocese's list 1/31/2019. It notes that De Francisco was removed from ministry in 1960. Believed to have died in the early 1990s.

From the Netherlands. Joined the Diocese of Lafayette LA in 1953. Named publicly as accused by the diocese on its list in 4/2012. Retired in 1986. In 2009 a social worker reported to the diocese that a woman alleged de Leeuw sexually abused her starting when she was age 13 and continuing until she was married. He was quietly removed in 2011. In 2019 the woman's sister, then in her early 60s, told a news outlet that de Leeuw sexually abused her beginning when she was about age seven and in third grade, and continuing until she was in sixth grade. She said he also sexually abused most of her six siblings. The siblings had come forward to the diocese in 2011. de Leeuw denied the allegations. He died in 2015, at age 97.

Assigned to Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Carmel IN when suspended from public ministry 3/11/22 due to allegations of "inappropriate conduct with a minor." The alleged victim wrote two letters in 2021 to the diocese about De Oreo's behavior while he was a teen and parishioner of St. Alphonsus Liguori in Zionsville in 2018 and 2019. The youth claimed he was sexually harrassed and groomed by the priest. De Oreo filed suit against his accuser 4/4/22.

On leave 1987-1989; Navy chaplain 1989-1993. Resigned after admitting in 1993 to abusing a boy at a CA Marine base. After Bishop DiLorenzo came to Honolulu in 1993 he removed de Otero from public ministry.

Civil suit filed in 1/1992; settled out of court in 9/1993. Archdiocese knew of his history of deviant sexual behavior. In 1987 (after he yelled obscenities and exposed himself to a woman), the Capuchins transferred him to Pittsburgh. Seminary officials knew of use of church money for x-rated movies and porn before ordination. Left priesthood in 1988 and married. Dismissed from the clerical state 12/29/1992. Became a licensed social worker, began work with the V.A. in 1996. The state board required him to avoid counseling those under age 21. Included on the Baltimore archdiocese's 2002 list of accused religious priests and brothers. Included in the PA Grand Jury Report 8/14/2018. Surrendered his social work license in 2018 per the state board's request, due to the public release of information about his sexual misconduct. Included in the MD Attorney General's 4/5/2023 Report.

From the Bahamas. Assigned to St. Veronica in South Baltimore and then in 2000 to St. Francis Xavier in East Baltimore. Suspended in 2002 after allegations that he molested a 13-year-old boy in 4/2002 at St. Francis Xavier. Archdiocese said in 9/2002 that the allegation did not "appear...credible" but investigation revealed "significant issues of concern about...fitness for ministry with minors." He resigned and was placed on leave by his Order. One young man said in 8/2002 that Dean would "ride around Mount Vernon and pick up little boys" every Monday night. Indicted on criminal charges in 5/2003; charges dismissed by judge "at the request of the victim's family" in 12/2003. Settlement in 2004. Included on the Baltimore archdiocese's list. Included in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General's Report.

In 10/20 the archdiocese announced that Dean had been found unsuitable for ministry, due to an allegation received in 10/19, found substantiated, of the sexual abuse of a minor in the 1970s. Dean was assigned to SS. Philip & James in Exton at the time of the abuse. No criminal charges due to the statute of limitations. Had been chaplain and in residence since 2012 at a retirement home for nuns in Malvern. In 10/20 he had been moved to a place for priests in a prayer and penance program.The diocese had also received a report in 2014 of possible inappropriate behavior with a minor at SS. Philip & James; unclear if same victim. Archdiocese decided after the 2014 report to limit Dean's ministry.

A woman notified the diocese 2/14/94 that she had been sexually abused by DeAngelis repeatedly 1957-65, beginning when she was age 5 and attending the parish school. On 6/17/94 she also wrote to Bishop Gelineau about the abuse. DeAngelis was pastor and a senior diocesan official, named monsignor during the period of the alleged abuse. Died 1/24/90. Diocese paid $12.5K to the survivor 4/4/96, for therapy costs. She did not sign a confidentiality agreement. On diocese's list 7/1/19.

Fr. Charles F. Dearing

Parish priest, Air Force chaplain. Left the priesthood in 1971. Married and raised a family. A woman filed suit in 4/2003 alleging abuse by Dearing when she was about 10 in 1966-1968. Suit settled in 6/2003 as part of a massive diocesan settlement. Criminal charges filed in 7/2003. He pleaded not guilty. Charges later dismissed after prosecutor said there was "insufficient evidence at this time" to proceed. Dearing died 2/23/2009.

Br. Fidelis DeBerardinis

Worked in Boston MA, Honduras, Guatemala, Trinidad, Israel and NY. Charged in 2002 with the sexual assault of as many as 7 altar boys 1968-1973. Left MA in 1973, which stopped the statute of limitations. The Franciscan order said that it settled a sexual misconduct claim against him "a decade ago" involving one of the men who filed criminal charges in 2002. Pleaded guilty in 2004 to assaulting 8 youths; sentenced to 8 years in prison and 10 years probation. Still in custody in 11/11. Omitted from 2011 Boston AD database.

Fr. Matthew DeBlock

Prohibited from ministry during investigation.

Fr. George DeCosta

Two men filed claims in a NY court as part of the Irish Christian Brothers bankruptcy, claiming sexual abuse by DeCosta in the 1960s. The Order was in charge of Honolulu's Damien Memorial School, where DeCosta taught during the time in question. He denied the allegations. Worked in Honolulu until assigned to St. Mary Gate of Heaven in Hilo in 1973. Was reportedly forced to retire in 2002. As of 2012, DeCosta was pastor of Hale Lokahi in Hilo and worked with teenagers via  Music Ministry Alive. A civil suit was filed by two men in 3/2012. Accused in a lawsuit of raping a 5-year-old boy in 1991; the boy was a preschool student at Hale O Kamalii School in Hilo. As of 4/2016, DeCosta was accused of sexually abusing nine children. A lawsuit filed in 2013 by two men against the Diocese settled in 3/2017. DeCosta was laicized 7/29/2020.

Fr. Phillip J. Dedera

Removed from hospital chaplain ministry 2002 after a credible allegation that he abused a teenager in 1974. Sued in 2006 by a person alleging abuse over 100 times at St. Pius X parish in Lombard 1975-1976. Claim settled. Name on the Joliet diocese's list in 2006. Diocese agreed to release of personnel files in 3/2013 as part of settlement in Rudofski v Joliet & Bennett. Files released 4/30/2014. Named in a 2015 suit as having ignored an 11-year-old boy's screams while another priest, Henry Slade, assaulted him after the boy refused a sex act. Plaintiff said Dedera then offered him marijuana to "help him forget it." Permanently removed from ministry, per the diocese's list updated 12/6/2018. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report, which notes 7 "reported survivors."

Fr. Garrett Neal Dee

Ordained for the Springfield IL diocese. In treatment for about a year before assigned in 1988 to the Diocese of Amarillo, TX. In 4/2002 a man told the Springfield diocese that Dee abused him in the 1960s in IL. The man's attorney wrote directly to the Amarillo diocese in June, and Dee was placed on leave. Dee admitted to sexual misconduct with minors in the Diocese of Springfield. At least one more man from TX contacted local papers after story about Dee alleging he was molested by the priest in Groom, TX. On Springfield diocese's list 11/29/2019. It notes his removal from active ministry 7/31/2002. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report, which notes 4 "reported survivors."

Fr. Hadmels R. DeFrias

From the Dominican Republic. Accused of fondling two brothers under the age of 14 when they worked at the rectory of St. Mary's of the Assumption in Elizabeth in 2001 and 2002. Their mother walked in on an incident and complained to church officials. Removed from the parish and active priesthood. Arrested in 2003; living in MD at the time. Pled guilty. Sentenced to three years probation and barred from contact with minors in NJ. On the archdiocese's list 2/13/19. Permanently removed from ministry. Laicized. Lived in FL 2003-2010. Found in 3/19 to be teaching children at a private school in the Dominican Republic. Presenting himself as "Father Rafael" as part of an interfaith group called "The Order of Eremitic Servants."

Fr. Richard Degagne

Placed on leave in 11/2019 pending an investigation into "misconduct" allegedly occurring prior to ordination. Degagne denied the allegations. He was a junior high school music teacher before entering the priesthood. Included on the diocese's list of accused 1/17/2021, under "cases in process." Allegedly sexually abused a boy 1972-1973 when a counselor at Cathedral Camp in Freetown. In 12/13/2021 the diocese announced that the allegations against Degagne were deemed credible and that he would not be returned to ministry. Lawsuit filed in 7/2022 alleges abuse of a boy, age 12-13, in 1988 in New Bedford and during an overnight trip to Maine. Settled in 5/2023.

Arrested in 12/2011 on charges of sexual activity with at least one child. Per a 2019 report commissioned by the diocese, there was one victim, an 8-year-old girl, abused in 2008.

The Official Catholic Directories show Dekeukelaere at Church of the Nativity in Arlington VA in 1983, St. Charles Borromeo in Philadelphia in 1984-1987, no listing for 1987-1988, then at the order's retreat center, Missionhurst, in Arlington VA 1988-1992. He died 3/3/1992. Named publicly as accused by the Alexandria diocese on its list 2/6/2019 (last name spelled Dekeukelare). 


Fr. Richard Delahunty

Per news in 1/04, Delahunty had just been placed on leave pending investigation of allegation that he sexually molested a boy in 1981. Civil suit filed. Delahunty denied the allegation. Plaintiff says he notified an administrator at the time of the abuse. Delahunty's name appears on list released by the Orange diocese of six priests accused in 2003 of sexual abuse of minors. Settled in 2005. Returned him to ministry in 11/04 after review board found "no credible evidence" against him. Retired in 2016.

Pastor of St. Agnes in Tittabawassee Township when arrested 2/25/2018 on charges of the sexual assault of a 21-year-old man and 17-year-old boy. Parents of the boy told police concerns regarding DeLand and their son. Arrested after the boy went undercover. Suspended. DeLand gave the boy alcohol and ecstasy. "Nearly half a dozen" more people reported to police attempted and actual sex abuse, some three decades prior; some minors, at least one girl. Diocese knew of "rumors" in 1992. Investigated by the Diocese in 2005 after a woman reported that her brother, who died by suicide in 1993, may have been abused in the 1970s. Deemed "unfounded." Suit filed in 3/2018 by 17-year-old boy. Arrested again in 4/2018; some charges related to the alleged sex assault of a 17- or 18-year-old male in 5/17. His father said he reported the incident to the Diocese, but no response. Pleaded no contest in 9/2018 in a plea deal. Withdrew plea weeks later. Acquitted in 3/2019 of assault of two teens. Pleaded no contest to earlier withdrawn plea, avoiding trial. Sentenced in 4/2019 to 2 to 15 years in prison. Case sent to the Vatican. Released on parole in 4/2021; parole to end in 4/22. Required to register as a sex offender. Laicized announced in 11/2022.

In 11/03 R. Scamardo, the former chief counsel for the Diocese of Galveston-Houston, announced that he had been abused in 1975 by Delaney, former director for youth ministry for the Austin diocese. Scamardo told Austin Bishop of his allegations and requested in-patient treatment. Matter settled in 10/03 for $250K and counseling fees. Delaney laicized in 1987 "for behavior problems." Bishop admitted he had heard from other victims. Another suit filed 5/04. Died in 2008. On Austin diocese's list 1/31/19.

Accused by a woman of raping her shortly before she graduated from high school in 1967 at age 18. Another man was accused too. Abuse not recalled until 1983. Complainant also recovered under hypnosis memories of being abused by her father, father's friends, and her mother, and of being raped by her doctors. Complainant believed she had performed exorcisms. AG's file notes that her allegation "was not deemed credible," possibly referring only to the allegation against the second man. Died 1987.

From Colombia. In 1995 a woman said she was recently raped by Delgado at a religious retreat after she sought counseling from him. Delgado was a seminarian at the time. He was acquitted by jury. In a 8/98 civil suit, the woman claimed that just before her incident, Delgado had been accused of molesting a 13-year-old girl and pled guilty in 1997. May have returned to Columbia as part of a probation agreement. Included in 1/21 on the Fall River diocese's list, where he worked at some point at Cathedral Camp in East Freetown.

Allegations in 5/2006 of the assault of a 15-year-old boy 1983-1985. Placed on leave. Diocese said there was a "semblance of truth" which warranted further investigation. Abuse was alleged to have occurred at St. Joseph's in Rio Vista and at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Sacramento. Same accuser filed civil suit 3/2009. Name included on the Diocese's list 4/30/2019. Permanently removed from ministry in 2006. Sentenced by the Holy See to a life of prayer and penance.

In 2/20 Attorney Mitchell Garabedian stated the diocese settled in 9/19 with a man claiming Della Rosa sexually abused him at age 14 in 1964. He was apparently a priest of the diocese at that time; the directories prior to 1962 show Della Rosa as a Salesian of Don Bosco. The abuse allegedly occurred at St. Anthony of Padua in Rocky Point and involved the priest forcing the boy to perform oral sex on him. Della Rosa died in 1991. The suit also alleged that Bishop Connare failed to discharge Dellamalva after being confronted by the plaintiffs and others. Included in 8/14/18 PA Grand Jury Report. It notes "numerous allegations." Accused of abuse of a 9th to 12th grade Mother of Sorrows in Murrysville altar boy during annual mountain retreats. Sued; settled 2004 for $25K. A fifth man alleged abuse at ages 13-15 in the Mother of Sorrows rectory. Sued; settled for $25K. Per GJ report, Dellamava last functioned as a priest in the diocese in 1984 and resigned from the priesthood in 1986. Moved to Baltimore, where he died of complications from AIDS in 1994.

In 3/1998 the Archdiocese received an allegation that Delli Carpini sexually abused a boy 1977-1983, beginning when the boy was 13. Placed on leave, sent to St. John Vianney Hospital for evaluation. Returned to ministry in 9/1998 as chaplain for a senior sisters residence and part-time at Archdiocesan headquarters. In 3/2002 an allegation surfaced that Delli Cabrini sexually abused a boy for four years prior to seminary, beginning when the boy was 9. Removed from chaplaincy. Placed on leave again in 4/2004, further restrictions in 9/2004. Laicization announced in 2005.

No prosecution at the time, due to "unusual circumstances" that required corroboration to prove the case. Possibly working in a secular job in Hollywood, FL as of 1/2012. Eight known accusers as of 5/2019. Criminal charges filed 5/23/2019 related to allegations of sexual abuse over 5 years of a boy in Burton, beginning when the boy was age 5 or 6 in 1995. The boy was a student at Holy Redeemer Parish School in Burton, where DeLorenzo was pastor 1988-2002. Arrested in Marion County FL in 2019, charge with the sexual assault in 1987 of a 5-year-old boy after presiding at a funeral for the boy's family member. On the Lansing Diocese's list 9/27/2019. Laicization pending. Pleaded guilty in 4/2023, in exchange for the dropping of the 5/2019 charges of child sexual assault 1995-2000. Sentenced in 6/2023 to five years' probation, the first year in jail, and mandated to register as a sex offender for life. Died 1/26/2024.

Returned to ministry in 4/2022 after the Archdiocese deemed the allegations unsubstantiated.

Providence priest. Founded an orphanage and school in Haiti. In 1989 boys at the orphanage complained about inappropriate touch and explicit sexual references. Arrested in Haiti. Haitian authorities apparently said behavior "inappropriate" but nothing else. Released from jail. Assigned by Providence Bishop Gelineau to a parish in the diocese. Removed in 2002, accused of sexually abusing a boy, ages 12-14, about 35 years prior. Absent on Leave 2002-2005. Retired in 2005. Died 7/21/2018. In 9/2019 a 50-year-old man stated publicly that Demers abused him at age 7 or 8 at St. Joseph's. He sued 2/27/2020; said he saw boys at the rectory brought by Demers from Haiti and Central America. The suit also claims that Demers trafficked boys as early as the 1970s through his charities, and had parties in the rectory with some boys wearing diapers and made to pose for "sexually suggestive" photos. Dismissed in 10/2020, the judge ruling that church leadership cannot be labeled "perpetrators." The RI Supreme Court affirmed the ruling in 6/2023.

Fr. Ferdinand B. Demsher

First named publicly as accused in 8/14/2018 PA Grand Jury Report. At least four alleged victims. A man told the diocese 3/18/2002 that Demsher sexually abused him at age 13-14 during 1975-1976 at St. Mary of the Assumption. He was working at the parish for Demsher doing odd jobs. In 3/2012 the diocese received a report that Demsher molested a boy in the late-1970s to early-1980s. In 2/2015 a man told the diocese that he was abused by Demsher as a 14-year-old Central Catholic High School freshman. A 2/1/2016 memo in Demsher's personnel file revealed that another person said Demsher fondled him when he was a 10- to 11-year-old altar boy at Resurrection parish. Another person alleged abuse by the priest as noted in a 5/2016 memo. He said the abuse occurred in the mid- to late-1960s. Demsher died in 1983. Included on the diocese's list of accused.

In 1951, Denges was made pastor of St Anthony of Padua in Southern Pines and Dean of the Raleigh Deanery. In 1929-1949 he ran Camp Denges in Abell MD in the Washington archdiocese with his brother Msgr Joseph F Denges. Msgr Peter M Denges died on 7/27/85.

Ordained in Ireland. First public allegations against Dennehy were made in a civil suit filed 10/5/2010. The plaintiff alleged that Dennehy abused him when he was an altar boy, ages 12 and 13, in 1967-1968, at St. John the Baptist parish. In addition to masturbation, oral sex, and sodomy, the plaintiff was allegedly forced to dress in a girl's school uniform during the abuse. Dennehy was the parish pastor and Cardinal Gibbons High School principal. He retired in 1993 and died in 1999. Miami said it offered counseling to the plaintiff in 2009, but he denied that happened.

In 2/2003 two brothers told Joliet police that Dennerlein had sexually abused them when they were boys in the  1970s. Dennerlein denied the allegations. Removed. In 10/2003 he challenged the credibility of his accusers but did refer to "a single, momentary incident" involving one of the boys. In 10/2003 the Diocesan Review Board deemed one of the allegations credible. Suit filed in 10/2003 by another set of brothers alleging abuse in the 1960s. Dismissed due to the statute of limitations. Review Board deemed allegations not credible. In 2006 another man alleged abuse at age 13 by Dennerlein. Review Board again said not credible. Included in 2006 on the diocese's list of credibly accused. Allegation in 2008 of abuse 1971 and 1972. Not substantiated, per Review Board. Canonical process was pending when Dennerlein died in 2021. Allegations found credible in 2004. Laicized 8/11/04. Nun testified in Msgr. Lynn trial 4/12 that she was fired after she sent one of his porn magazines to then-Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua.

Fr. Harold Charles Depp

Reportedly in 5/2003,  Depp walked away from his parish in the Detroit archdiocese in 1963 and never returned. Placed "on leave." Never officially left the priesthood. In the 1980s the Archdiocese learned that in 1982 Depp had been convicted of child sexual abuse and was serving eight years in an Alaskan prison. He was arrested in California in 2003 on charges of abusing an 11-year-old boy in 1971 while a visiting priest from Detroit. Charges dropped 7/15/2003 due to the statute of limitations. Included on the Detroit Archdiocese's 6/10/2019 list of credibly accused.

Fr. Michael Dermody

Accused of 'affairs' with three women he counseled. They won $1.4 million judgment against him in 1992, but not against Diocese; another woman won a $3 million judgment against him but not diocese. In 1993 women sued in attempt to recover damages from church insurance policy. California Superior Court Judge dismissed women's suit which attempted to collect from Insurance Co., saying that abuse not covered by the policy. 3rd Dist. Appellate Court affirmed the decision 2/3/95. On diocese's list 4/30/19. On diocese's list 4/30/19. It notes report to diocese in 1989 of abuse of a woman, ages 18-25. Faculties withdrawn. The daughter wasn't sure how many times, but remembered one incident that allegedly occurred while Derylo was putting her pajamas on her.

Suspended 12/30/19 after taking "disturbing" photos of high school wrestlers at a tournament 12/27/19. The photos included closeups of the boys' buttocks. Diocese investigating. Police investigated - no charges because the boys were clothed. An adult spectator noticed Derzack's behavior and told a police officer at the tournament. Derzack was not dressed in clerical garb at the time. The officer had him delete the photos and leave the school.

Fr. Michael C. DeScoise

Diocese: Diocese of Pueblo CO

Named as accused in the CO A.G.'s report released 10/23/19. In 2018 the diocese received an allegation that DeScoise sexually abused a 14-year-old boy in 1986 or '87, while assigned to St. Joseph's in Grand Junction. His accuser said the abuse occurred during what was supposed to be Confession and spiritual counseling on a walk in a rural area. DeScoise denied the allegation. Faculties suspended. Case sent to the Vatican. In 2016 his faculties had been suspended after he admitted to sexual activity with adult men; they were restored in 2017 after counseling.

A priest of the Archdiocese of Quebec. Worked several summers in Maine. Died in 1980. In 1/22 the Diocese of Portland ME announced that the Diocesan Review Board had substantiated an allegation that Descombes sexually abused a minor in the mid-1950s, during a trip to Canada. Per the diocese, it learned of the allegation in 2021.


Fr. Joseph Michael DeShan

Reportedly in 4/2002, DeShan had a sexual 'relationship' with a 14- or 15-year-old girl in 1988. The girl became pregnant in 1989. DeShan took a leave of absence after telling Bishop Egan. Egan allowed him to leave the priesthood and to begin a new life as elementary school teacher, with no record of sexual misconduct. Laicized in  1999. Teaching in NJ in 2002 when the allegation was revealed. Temporarily placed on leave for three weeks; allowed to return to teaching. Claim settled in 10/2003. Suspended again from a Cinnaminson NJ public middle school teaching job in early 2019 after parents concerned about his history demanded his removal. A 12-year-old girl, who was his student, complained in 12/2018 that he made her feel uncomfortable when he complimented her eyes. In 4/2019 the state Dept. of Education ordered the district to return DeShan to his job. Per a report commissioned by the diocese in 2019, there was one victim, a 15-year-old girl, abused 1988-1989.

Fr. Donald A. Desilets

Desilets was disciplined by the Diocesan Misconduct Commission and barred from public ministry in the early 1990s after he allegedly molested two boys at Precious Blood Church in Holyoke. He was allowed to retire and join the Sulpician Fathers in Montreal to help prepare young men for the priesthood. He died 4/28/2001. One claim was settled in 2004 and another in 2008 as part of larger settlements. Included on the Diocese's list of credibly accused in 3/2016.

Accused of molesting at least 20 altar boys 1974-1984 in MA. Returned to Canada in 1984. Indicted in 2002 for molesting 18 additional boys 1978-1984. Extradited in 2005 from Canada. Pleaded guilty, sentenced to up to 18 months in prison and probation. Asked judge to excuse him from sex offender treatment because of his advanced age (82) and health. Allowed to return to Canada to serve probation. Died in 2010 at age 86. Omitted from the Boston archdiocese's 2011 list.

Note: Both the 1993 and 2002 Catholic Directories show him assigned to the Archdiocese of Baltimore. They also show his name spelled Wilfrid. Died in 2012.

In 1993 a boy's father went to the archdiocese with allegations. Official said the diocese had a file on DeSutter regarding other sexual misconduct allegations and that DeSutter would be retired. Six years later he was still active. Two lawsuits filed in 1999; settled out of court. A third suit was filed in 1996; dismissed on statute of limitations. Limited ministry 1998-2003. Moved to AZ without privileges, but was saying masses in 2002. Permanently removed from ministry in 2003. Died in 7/16.

Deacon Russel William Detwiler

Ordained a Deacon of the diocese in 1995; worked at Sacred Heart parish in Wichita Falls. Moved to MI 2001, returned to TX Spring 2006. Returned to Sacred Heart parish in 1/09. Involved in prison ministry. Arrested 5/25/17 after a 14-year-old girl told therapist Detwiler touched her inappropriately between 2010-12, when she was under age 10. Charged with Indecency with a Child. Girl's mother said she had previously confronted Detwiler about the allegations. Convicted in 6/18, and again in 2018 related to charges involving the same victim in Wichita Falls.

Fr. Timothy DeVenney

Accused in 6/1996 of fondling five teenage boys 1993-1996, during his first assignment. Suspended. Criminally charged in 6/21/1996. Pleaded guilty in 1997. Sentenced to 10 years in prison. Released from prison on parole in 12/2001 and was living outside Washington DC in a residence run by a religious order. At least one claim settled in a $2.6M settlement with the archdiocese in 3/2007. Another was included in a 3/2008 settlement. Laicization announced in 12/2008.

Allegation made at some point after his death. No information as to where abuse is alleged to have occurred.

Fr. Gerard V. Dever

Per allegations in his personnel file, Dever repeatedly played with girls' clothing and touched their breasts at St. Ann's Elementary School in Wollaston. At least eight girls complained about him 1993-1996. Parishioners were so upset in 1996 that they were threatening to go en masse to see the Cardinal. Allowed to remain in ministry without suspension. Review board recommended continued therapy. Died in 1997. The 8/2011 Boston archdiocese list reported that there was no formal determination of guilt because Dever died prior to a canonical investigation or it was not complete at his death.

Fr. Thomas Devery

Pastor of Our Lady Star of the Sea in 3/21 when Devery acknowledged to parishioners in a letter that he had been accused four years earlier in an "unsuccessful claim" via the IRCP of sexually abusing a minor about forty years prior. The same accuser filed a lawsuit under the Child Victims Act in 8/19 claiming abuse as an altar server at age 15 in 1984, at a Shrub Oak parish. Devery was kept in ministry. His letter to parishioners was released several days after SNAP publicly stated that Cardinal Dolan did not inform parishioners of the allegations.

Fr. Raymond L. Deviney

First named publicly as accused in the 8/14/18 PA Grand Jury Report. The diocese received a report in 1994 from a woman who said Deviney was sexually inappropriate with her when she was a teen. She said that later, after losing a baby and husband, Deviney violated her. The woman said she contacted Bishop Timlin in 2001 to ask if Deviney had ever received treatment, and that the bishop responded that Deviney hadn't and that he hoped she could put it all behind her. She pressed again in 10/02; Timlin said Deviney agreed to treatment. The diocese indicated that the allegations were unsubstantiated. On diocese's list 8/19/18. Permanently removed from ministry.

Ordained for the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Confessed publicly in 1998 to a "sexual relationship" with a 16-year-old boy in New York in 1978. The boy's mother had confronted him in 1978. She told Auxiliary Bishop G. Ryan in 1984 and he promised intervention. The mother learned that DeVita was still active in 1993 and again went to the Diocese, which paid a $50K settlement to the victim the same year. DeVita was sent to treatment and then assigned for 14 months in the Diocese of Venice, FL and then for 5 months in the Diocese of Palm Beach. Dismissed from both dioceses due to the NY allegations and behavior in FL. Accepted into the Diocese of Kalamazoo in 1995 by Bishop Markewicz, who was aware of the allegations. Incardinated into Kalamazoo in 8/1999. Suspended from public ministry in 2002 after the Dallas Bishops' Conference. DeVita appealed to the Vatican and was allowed reinstatement in 2003; not granted by diocese. Died 12/13/2013.

Review Board found allegations credible. Devlin denied the allegations. One claim was included in an 11/2008 $4.5M settlement with the Diocese. Canonical trial ordered - in process per Diocese's 8/2011 list. Per the Diocese's list updated in 6/2021, there were multiple allegations. Devlin died in 2021.

In 1/1990 the family of a boy, age 14, told Salt Lake diocesan officials that Devlin molested their son in CA while there for a track meet in 12/1989. Devlin was a teacher and the boy's track coach at St. Joseph High School in Ogden. The family agreed to keep silent if Devlin went to counseling and was removed from contact with children. No prosecution. Sent to the Jesuit Community in Los Gatos, CA, received three months' counseling. The family went to the press in 8/1993 after learning that Devlin was in active ministry at a parish in Virginia City, NV, with access to minors. Removed. Sent back to Los Gatos where he lived until his death 2/6/2011. The Catholic Directory 1995-1997 shows him in Los Gatos and at the Cathedral in Stockton, CA. On Salt Lake City diocese's list 12/4/2018. On Las Vegas diocese's list 4/12/2019. On Jesuits West Province list 12/7/2018, noting a parish assignment in Paradise, CA 1991-1993. On Stockton's 11/12/2020 list.

Fr. James Devorak

Retired in 7/15. In 8/17 Bishop Levoir announced in a letter to parishioners that the diocese had been notified of an allegation of one incident of sex abuse against Devorak, alleged to have occurred in the 1990s while Devorak was assigned to St. Pius X in Glencoe. Worked during retirement as a parochial vicar in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Removed from public ministry pending investigation. On 10/20/17 the archdiocese announced that the Glencoe Police Dept. determined the allegation to be unfounded and that Devorak had been reinstated to ministry.


Fr. Joseph deWater

From the Netherlands, where he was ordained. Parish priest, spiritual director for the Catholic Girl Scouts through the 1970s. Was living in the Netherlands in retirement when suspended in 12/2020 by Bishop Aymond, pending the investigation of an allegation of abuse in the mid-1970s of an altar boy. In a 1/2021 interview deWater denied wrongdoing and said the alleged victim should not "dwell on things when he was a young boy."

The 8/2011 Boston archdiocese list reported that there was no formal determination of guilt either because Dewey died prior to a canonical investigation or it was not complete at his death.

Fr. Gerald Dezurick

Sued in 2005. Plaintiff alleged that Dezurick molested him in about 1960 at Tillamook Catholic High School when he was 16. Suit also alleged that Dezurick then lied to the boy's parents and persuaded them to commit him to a mental institution to cure homosexuality. Another man came forward to allege abuse in 1957. Total of four known accusers.Settlement with the Abbey in 2003. Dezurick died in 1986. Also worked in the Spokane diocese for several years in the late 1970s.

Fr. Ralph Di Pasquale

A woman filed civil suit in 2004 alleging abuse by Di Pasquale at a Schenectady home for troubled teens between 1979 and 1982. The suit claimed that the order and diocese knew as early as 1976 that Di Pasquale had molested children, yet continued to allow him to work with children. He was working as a priest in Florida at the time of his 12/04 death.

Priest of the Newark NJ archdiocese, ordained in 1956. He worked in a number of archdiocesan parishes and schools, and was a hospital and youth detention center chaplain. He then spent more than a decade as an instructor at Oratory School in Summit NJ. In 1977 Di Peri was sent to Canoga Park CA for "health" reasons, where he worked at Marianist-run Chaminade Preparatory High School. He appears to have returned to NJ after a year, where he again taught at Oratory, and then at a high school in Englewood NJ. His whereabouts after 1986 are unclear. In September 2002 Los Angeles police received a report that Di Peri molested a male Chaminade student during 1977-1978. The Newark archdiocese removed his privileges in 2003. By 2005 Di Peri was on the archdiocese's "permanent monitoring system" and was living in a Trenton diocese retirement home. He died in 2007.

Fr. Martin J. Diamond

Diamond spent his first two years of ministry at St. Peter's in Keokuk, then was a hospital chaplain for most of the 1930s. Army Reserve chaplain 1942-1946 then again a hospital chaplain. Pastor of St. Elizabeth's in Harper 1949-1963, returned to pastor St. Peter's 1963-1978. Retired in 1978. Died 6/11/1989. Accused in a 1/2003 lawsuit of abusing a boy 1967-1970 at St. Peter's, starting when the boy was age 8. The suit was dismissed because of Diamond's death and lack of evidence, per the Diocese. The Diocese's review board deemed the allegations not credible in 11/2003.

In a 5/2013 civil suit a man accused Diamond of abusing him as an 8- or 9-year-old in 1987, at St. Jude's Parish in Alamogordo. The same man also accused D. Barfield of abuse in the same suit and David Holley of abuse in a separate federal suit. Diamond and Holley worked together in the 1970s at St. Jude, which was then part of the El Paso Diocese. Diamond retired in 1988 and died 3/15/1995. Buried in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Almaogordo NM. Included on the Las Cruces diocese's list 11/8/2018. Named in a 4/9/2020 lawsuit.

Fr. Enrique Diaz Jimenez

From Colombia, ordained in Venezuela. Arrested in 1990. Pled guilty in 1991 to sexually abusing three boys 1984-89. Sentenced to five years probation and four months in prison, where he was allowed to leave on weekends to celebrate mass. A $60M suit was filed by the three victims in 4/91. Deported to Venezuela in 1991. Returned to Colombia in 1996. Abused 18 in Venezuela and two more in Colombia. Sentenced to jail in Colombia.

Fr. Donald J. Dickerson

Prior to ordination as a Jesuit, Dickerson was a brother of the Order of the Sacred Heart. Allegations of abuse of boys from prior to ordination and throughout priesthood. Removed from ministry, left the Jesuits in 1986. Accused in lawsuit settled in 2009 of sex abuse of boys at Jesuit High in New Orleans in the 1970s, while a seminarian. Federal suit 11/2010 accused Dickerson of sex abuse of a boy, including rape, in 1982 while assigned to St. John Berchman's in Shreveport LA. Also worked at Jesuit Prep in Dallas. Died in 2018. On Central and Southern Province Jesuits List 12/7/2018. Accused in suit filed in 3/2019 by a former Jesuit Prep in Dallas student of sex assault in the late 1970s. Added to lawsuit with multiple plaintiffs against Dallas Prep and the diocese in 11/2020; settled in 3/2022.

Fr. Ronald W. Dickman

Per news in 2002, Dickman was accused of abusing at least two students at Father Ryan High School, where he was principal. One man complained in 1991 about his brother's abuse and was told that Dickman had been removed from a prior school in 1987 after an earlier allegation. Dickman left the priesthood in 1991 and moved to FL. He denied all allegations. On diocese's list 11/2/2018.

Fr. Leon Dicks

Accused at some point of sexually abusing a girl, ages 11-14, about thirty times during 1958-1961, when the girl was a hospital patient. Dicks was a chaplain at St. Francis Hospital in Trenton where the girl received treatment, and the abuse occurred in her hospital room. A claim in the case was settled in 5/2020 in the low six figures. Dicks died 10/4/2009.

Joined the Episcopal Church in 1993 in New Rochelle. Became an Episcopal Brother of St. Gregory 7/23/99, taking the name Br. Patrick Ignatius. Worked at Fessenden house in Yonkers beginning in 1997; lived there until his death.

Fr. Dominic Aloysius Diederich

Monsignor. Pastor of St. Maurice 1942-1966, Pastor Emeritus 1966-1977. Died 4/24/1977. On 1/31/2006 the Archdiocese confirmed that church officials had reason to believe since 1994 that Diederich had engaged in sexual misconduct with a child. The admission came after a woman confronted Cardinal George about Diederich at a public meeting on 1/30/2006. In 1994 another woman received a settlement after reporting sexual abuse by Diederich as a child at St. Maurice School. After publicity in 2006, more women came forward with allegations of abuse by him as girls at St. Maurice. There were at least seven victims, all young girls from economically disadvantaged families. The Archdiocese refused to include Diederich on its list of priests with substantiated allegations because he was deceased. He was added to the list 11/28/2018 after the Attorney General began an investigation. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report.

Extern priest from the Diocese of Sorsogon, Philippines working in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles 1978-1988. Returned to the Philippines. Accused in 1992 of the abuse of several students 1982-1988. Cardinal Mahony wrote in 1993 to a bishop in Diesta's home diocese to urge him to keep Diesta away from teenage boys and seminarians, and that he should undergo a psychological evaluation. The bishop "scoffed" at Mahony , who then wrote to the Vatican. In 2001, Mahony found Diesta working as a U.S. Navy chaplain and at a seminary in the Philippines. He wrote again to Vatican and also informed the U.S. Military, L.A. Police and Philippines authorities. Diesta reportedly remained an active parish priest there as of 2013. His L.A. personnel file was released in 1/2013.

Worked in Lemont, IL and Denver, CO. Named publicly by the Vincentian Order on its list in 2020 as the subject of multiple allegations of abuse, occurring in the 1980s. After the abuse was reported in 1987, Diete was sent to St. Luke Institute for treatment, then returned in 1988 to ministry. His faculties were removed in 1991. Fr. Joseph L. DiGregorio

Per the 2011 Grand Jury Report II, a woman reported in 2005 that DiGregorio sexually abused her in 1967 or 1968 at Our Lady of Loretto in Philadelphia when she was 16. The Review Board found the allegation to be credible but reversed itself in 2006. Placed on leave from job as parochial vicar at Stella Maris Rectory after release of Grand Jury Report. He denied all allegations. Reinstated in 10/12. Board said he violated priestly conduct standards but was eligible to return to ministry.

Bishop Nicholas A. DiMarzio

Diocese: Archdiocese of Newark NJ

Named Auxiliary Bishop of Newark in 1996, Bishop of Camden in 1999, and Bishop of Brooklyn in 2003. In 11/19 the Newark archdiocese was notified of an allegation that DiMarzio sexually abused a St. Nicholas in Jersey City altar boy, age 11, in the mid-1970s. His alleged victim also accused Rev. Albert Mark. The man filed suit in 3/21. DiMarzio "emphatically denied" the allegation. In 1/20 the Vatican ordered Cardinal Dolan to investigate. In 3/20 a second man came forward, alleging DiMarzio repeatedly sexually abused him when he was about age six, forty years prior, at Holy Rosary in Jersey City. DiMarzio denied the allegation. This man filed suit in 2/21. On 9/1/21 the Vatican announced that the allegations were without "the semblance of truth." DiMarzio retired several weeks later, at age 77.

Name appears on Baltimore archdiocese's 9/2002 list of religious priests and brothers accused of sexual abuse. Had been with his order about 26 years. Order told the Archdiocese in 1997 that a man alleged sexual abuse beginning in the early 1980s, when Dimitroff was a Bishop Walsh High School teacher and the man was a student. The abuse lasted until 1997. Dimitroff admitted to the 'relationship' and said he thought the boy was 18. Dimitroff lived at the Christian Brothers residence at Calvert Hall High School 1992-2002. Faculty member at Loyola College 2002- until at least 2008 and at the University of Maryland Baltimore County as of 2010. Included in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General's Report.

Claims included in the diocese's 9/07 $1.25M settlement with 32 plaintiffs alleging abuse by 17 priests. Named in the PA Grand Jury Report 8/14/2018 and on the diocese's list of credibly accused. In 2004 a man alleged abuse as a minor by Diskin in the mid-1970s at a Butler church. In 10/2002 a woman told the D.A. Diskin molested her as a child in the mid-1970s in Butler. In 6/2004 a man said he was abused when ages 12-13 by Diskin at St. Paul's in Butler 1976-1977. Accused in 11/2004 of abuse of a boy in the 1970s at St. Paul. Two men in 2/2009 reported mid-1970s abuse by Diskin when they were ages 11 and 14. In 1/2015 a man told the D.A. Diskin sexually abused him at ages 15-16 in Butler in 1976-1977. A woman reported in 1/2015 that Diskin sexually abused her as a minor in the mid-1970s. Diskin admitted in 2003 to a "sexual relationship" with a male minor for a few years while a priest in Butler.

The assignment record provided by the Jesuits does not show his whereabouts 1957-70; Per the Catholic Directory, he was in the Philippines through much of the1960s until 1973. The Jesuits' list shows him to have been at Rutgers U. in NJ 1970-77, then Rider College 1977-89. He died in 1990. (Placing him in this database in the NY archdiocese, where the Province is based.) Included on the Rockville Centre diocese's list in 3/21, which notes that alleged abuse occurred at a family member's apartment.

Accused in a 5/21/2002 letter to the Archdiocese of fondling a boy in 1990-1991, while assigned to Queen of Angels Junior Seminary. Dober denied the allegation and on 10/9/2002 the archdiocesan review board deemed it unfounded. The complainant filed suit in 2003 and was included in the global $60M settlement in 12/2006 with 44 others. Beginning in 1976, Dober was a reserve chaplain in the U.S. Air Force. Pastor of St. John of God in Norwalk, CA 2007 until his retirement in 2016.

Fr. Gregory Dobson

Accused in a lawsuit filed by a man 5/24/21 under the NY Child Victims Act of encouraging him 1994-98 as an elementary school boy to engage in sexual acts with four girls "provided" by Dobson and two other priests, Revs. Adolph Kowalczyk and Mieczyslaw "Matt" Nycz. Per the suit, the man feared the priests secretly filmed them. He was a student at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Orchard park. Dobson was retired and assisting in parishes when placed on leave due to the allegations.The three priests denied "ever committing any acts of abuse." In 10/21 the diocese's review board determined that the allegations against Dobson, Kowalczyk and Nycz were unsubstantiated. All three were reinstated to ministry.

Became an attorney and served as mayor of Champaign 1983-1987. Civil suit filed in 1994. Court ruled in 11/1996 that case could go forward. Dodd died 3/28/2013. Accused in a lawsuit[s] filed in CA sometime between 2020-2022 of the sexual abuse of a minor[s]. (Name misspelled Dodson). Dodgson was a Philadelphia priest until his transfer in 1958 to Fresno CA. News accounts show that he was arrested in 1955 for fraud, having taken money from two men with the false promise of buying them cars. He was a heavy race-track gambler. Dodgson resurfaced as an active priest in 1958 in the Diocese of Monterey-Fresno. He transferred in 1965 to the Diocese of Boise, where he spent the remainder of his priesthood. Dodgson died in 1998.

Accused in a 3/05 civil suit of sexually abusing a boy for four years, beginning when the boy was age 10. The same suit alleges that the boy was abused by his uncle (Msgr. Page), other priests and two separate bishops. Plaintiff was in a Texas prison for an unrelated murder when the suit was filed. Worcester diocese said the allegations not credible. Doheny died in 1965.

Seminarian in Boston 1989-1993. Just before his scheduled ordination two men told the Archdiocese that he molested them in 1977 when they were ages 13 and 15, during a camping trip to NH. Never ordained. In 1994 a woman told the Archdiocese that she believed Doherty molested three of her sons. Two brothers from another family said Doherty had also molested them in 1979. Moved to Charlotte NC in 1997 and was hired as a religion teacher at Charlotte Catholic High. Cardinal Law sent documentation and informed Bishop Curlin that he "will not oppose ... excardination." Carlin reviewed the file and wrote Law that he "would not consider a request ... for incardination or priestly ordination." Suspended from his teaching job in 2/2003 after inquiries from the Boston Globe.

Lawsuit in 2003 claimed abuse of four to five boys. Settlement in 1994 for $50K. New suit in 2005 claimed abuse of a boy over five years, starting when the boy was 11 in 1997. Drugged and raped victims. Had them call him "Gus." Arrested in 2006. Settlement(s) in 2006. Two claims settled in 6/2007. Three more plaintiffs came forward in 4/2007. Multiple suits 2007-2013. By 11/2011 26 men had come forward with allegations. Trial awarded $100M in 11/2011; plaintiff(s) will never collect. Pleaded no contest in criminal matter 1/14/2013. Sentenced to 15 years 1/28/2013. New allegations emerged during the FL A.G.'s investigation, report released 11/6/2020. Reportedly in 8/2023, Doherty had been released from prison and was living in a residential neighborhood in Orlando.

The diocese announced in 1/20 that its Review Board found the allegations credible. Case to be sent to the Vatican. Sentenced to a life of prayer and penance. The diocese announced in 3/20 that it had received a second credible allegation, dating to 45 years prior when he was pastor of a Boscobel parish.

McManus reported the matter to police. Per a University of Southern Maine Osher Lifelong Learning Institute newsletter (OLLI) bio in 2017, Doherty retired as a priest to ME in 2006. He was noted to be an OLLI Advisory Board member.

Accused of abusing a boy at an unspecified date. Claims against him were included in a 1/03 settlement between the diocese and victims of 5 priests. The diocese reportedly said three people had come forward with claims against Dolak. Went on to work as an acute care family support specialist at Monmouth Medical Center. No longer there in 2/19. It notes that the 1995 report was from a man who said Fabian several other Xaverian Brothers at St. Mary's Industrial School sexually abused him, including rape, when he was age 13-16, beginning in 1945.  He said a Passionist priest also sexually abused him at the school.

It notes report in 2004 to the diocese of abuse in 1964, when Msgr Dolan was pastor of St Pius X church in Greensboro NC (now in the Charlotte diocese), where accused priest John J Hyland was accused in 2002 of abuse in 1964 also. Dolan founded St Pius X and was pastor there 1960-1975. Msgr Dolan was born in 1906 in Ireland and died on 9/26/81. On the Charlotte diocese's list 12/29/19 (middle initial incorrectly as J.)

Fr. Richard D. Dolan

A woman spoke before Archbishop Rigali and clergy in 9/06 about being raped by Dolan for 18 months, beginning when she was 14. Dolan left active ministry in 1981 and was laicized 5/31/00. Name not included in the 2005 Grand Jury Report. Name is included on secret 1994 memo from Wm. Lynn to Msgr. James Molloy (released 2/27/12) regarding priests in secret archives who were accused of sexual misconduct with a minor with no conclusive evidence.

Fr. Sean Dolan

Ordained in Ireland. Worked in the Yakima diocese until the mid-1970s when he left the priesthood. Two women filed suit in 11/2010 alleging abuse by Dolan between 1967 and 1975 at St. Paul Cathedral when they were about 16 years old. Both had gone to Dolan for counseling. He died in 2007. The suit also named the parish pastor, Rev. Christopher Breen - also later accused - as having known of the abuse and doing nothing. Included on the diocese's list 7/9/2019. It notes multiple claims and lawsuits settled.

Fr. Timothy Dolan

Pastor of St. William in Fridley. Removed in 2/2016 while under investigation for alleged possession of child pornography. Dolan's neighbors called police four times over a few years, reporting hearing a child crying and "in distress" in Dolan's apartment in Edina. Police searched each time and did not find a child. Admitted to police in 2/2016 to having pornography. Resigned from parish. Not charged as police could not prove the ages of the individuals in the images. In 5/2016 the Archdiocese was to begin an internal investigation. Bishop Hebda announced on 7/27/2020 that Dolan was authorized to return to ministry. Per the 2022 Official Catholic Directory, Dolan was retired.

Ordered in 10/2005 by the Vatican to live a life of prayer and penance. Died 7/13/2011 in Prince Edward Island, Canada. Included on the archdiocese's list of accused in 2019.

Donahue was retired at the time of the release of his name. The Archdiocese deemed the allegations unsubstantiated. Ministry restricted since 2015, when a first accuser came forward; applied for compensation from the Archdiocese, awaiting decision in 2/2020. In 2017 another man filed suit, claiming he was molested by Donahue at age 12 in 1976, when Donahue was assigned to Sacred Heart parish in East Boston. Claim settled in 2/2019 for $73K. Donahue denied all allegations. His status on the Archdiocese's list in 8/2022 is the same, although Donahue died 9/9/2020.

Diocese first learned in 12/10 that Donat allegedly abused a student at Aquinas in 1973. At least 4-5 other accusers have contacted attorneys claiming abuse. Privileges removed in 8/11 after review board found allegations credible. Sentenced by Vatican to Prayer and Penance. On diocese's list 10/9/18.

Worked at a boys' school run by the state and then ran a boys' ranch operated by the Santa Fe Archdiocese. The state of NM knew of allegations in 1971. Accused of sexually abusing and beating residents. The church ranch was closed after one boy died. At least one civil suit was filed in 1994 by two men. Archbishop Sanchez received complaints in 1976; sent another priest to investigate. Ranch closed shortly thereafter; Donelan remained a priest until his death in 1994. Lawsuit filed in 5/2017 by a man alleging abuse by Donelan and Rev. Laurier Labreche in the late 1980s, when the man was an 11- to 13-year-old altar boy at Church of the Ascension in Albuquerque. Included on the Santa Fe archdiocese's list of accused on 9/12/2017.

Removed in 7/2011 from his first assignment, at St. Joseph's in Fitchburg, after computer techs reported to the police that Dongor's computer contained child pornography. He admitted to the porn. Also took money from the parish to send to family in the Philippines. No reason given for his removal until he was arrested in 9/2011. Fled to the Philippines in  11/2011. Extradited to US in 12/2012, arrested and held on bail. Pled guilty 2/26/2012. Sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail, suspended for 5 years. Laicized.

School's headmaster said conduct "was so egregious as to force removal from his post." DA's office did not consider the incidents to be of a criminal nature. Allowed to serve as hospital chaplain by 2006. Omitted from 2011 Boston AD database.

Fr. Thomas D. Donnelly

Abuse is alleged at two Boston parishes and during trips to NH that included other girls. He denied the allegation. A 5/31/2001 memo indicated that the Archdiocese deemed it credible. Named by a woman in a lawsuit filed in 2/2002. Personnel filed released 12/2002. Per the 8/2011 Boston archdiocese's list, either the Review Board found the accusations unsubstantiated or he was acquitted by a canonical process. Restricted. Status remains the same in 8/2022 and 5/2024.

He returned to the Diocese of Alexandria where he was incardinated in 1942. He was removed from active ministry in 1966 and died in 1983. Named publicly as accused by the diocese on its list 2/6/2019. A review by the diocese of Donohoe's file in 2019 showed credible evidence of multiple allegations of sexual abuse of male minors dating from the 1960s.

Accused in a lawsuit filed in 8/21 under the NY Child Victims Act of sexually abusing an altar boy, age 14, in 1987 while assigned to Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Lakeview. He was kept in ministry until suspended in 9/21 pending the investigation of accusation(s) of abuse reportedly discovered in documents filed in the diocese's bankruptcy case. Donohue denied the allegations and his faculties were restored in 7/22. Reportedly, the alleged victim's attorneys would not allow the diocese's investigator to interview him. At the time of his reinstatement, the diocese said that Donohue was retired and did not have a parish or ministerial office assignment.

Church deemed the allegations credible. Claims against Donovan settled by the diocese as part of a massive settlement in 10/2003; the diocese paid $21M to 40 people alleging abuse by priests. Per the diocese's list updated 3/22/2019, there were multiple allegations against Donovan. He died in 2018. A report commissioned by the diocese in 2019 states there were eight victims, boys and at least one girl, ages 15-17, abused 1967-1993.

Allegations first public when two brothers sued the WDC archdiocese 6/2009, alleging sex abuse by Dooley 1950s-early 1960s, and that the Archdiocese knew there had been other allegations against him. A third man also filed suit in 6/2009. All said they were St. John's College High School students when abused. On the archdiocese list released 10/15/2018.

Reportedly in 9/2002, Doran was accused of abuse in 1963 in what was then the Diocese of Tucson, prior to the created in 1969 of the Diocese of Phoenix. A church spokesman said the diocese was also aware of another potential allegation from the same time period. Per documents, Doran was confronted in 1958 by Bishop Green for "homosexual sex with minors" and Doran admitted to his behavior. In 1966 a Brophy College Prep student reported to Bishop Green sexual abused by Doran. In 1969 Doran was made a diocesan consulter when Phoenix was established. Doran retired in 1990 and died in 1997. Accused in two lawsuits filed 9/2/2020 of abusing two boys, who were St. Thomas the Apostle parishioners, in the 1970s. At least one other suit filed.

Noted to be living in 2019 in the diocese, but was never affiliated with it. Suit in 7/2020 claims abuse of abuse of a minor, ages 13-14 in NJ 1975-1976. Died 8/31/2019. Sentenced to 11 1/2 - 23 months jail; released on parole after one week in 6/1995. Returned to St. Luke's. A second man in 12/1994 reported abuse at age 10 in 1981, occurring many times until he was in 8th grade. Dorsch withdrew from ministry in 1996. Accused 2/2004 of abuse 1982-1985 of an All Saints in Etna altar boy. Victim died by suicide in 5/2010 after the Diocese quit paying for therapy. Family sued. Dorsch was named in at least two civil suits in 2004. Claims included in Diocese's 9/2007 $1.25M settlement as to 32 plaintiffs alleging abuse by 17 priests. Superior Court dismissed appeal in 9/2011. A man in 1/2012 reported abuse by Dorsch as a 7th-8th grader at All Saints. A fifth report in 7/2012 of abuse of a 12 to 14-year old St. Coleman in Turtle Creek altar boy; had been reported to Diocese in 1994 or 1995. A man in 6/2016 reported abuse at St. Coleman's at ages 10-12. Named in the 8/28/2018 PA Grand Jury Report and on the diocese's list of accused.

Bishop Hannon responded to inquiries from the Archdiocese of New York and the Diocese of Burlington that Dorsey was an "incorrigible recidivist." Withdrew from the diocese 1975. His accuser filed a civil lawsuit 7/12/16, claiming Dougherty sexually abused her 2005-2011, beginning when she was age 7. Indicted in 6/16 charges of rape of a 13-year-old girl in 12/11. Pled not guilty. Judge declared a mistrial in 3/17 after jury deadlocked. Convicted at second trial 2/28/18, sentenced to 60 years in prison. Bishop Mulvey testified that a man told him in a letter that Dougherty sexually abused him at age 8. On diocese's list 1/31/19. On Fargo diocese's list 1/2/20, where he worked at some point. No known allegations there.

Fr. Louis E. Douglas

In 1992 the diocese settled with a man alleging abuse by Douglas as a minor in the 1960s. Accused in 2003 of improper sexual advances in the late 1970s with a male teen, allegedly supplied by Rev. Alan Jupin. Placed on leave. In 2004 the Review Board found no 'reasonable grounds' for the 2003 allegation. After news of the Review Board's decision, two women came forward to allege Bishop Hubbard admitted to them in a 1993 meeting that in the 1960s Douglas had two boys undress and masturbate. The women were parishioners of the parish Douglas abruptly left in 1993 and met with Hubbard to get answers. Douglas was at the time sent to the Paracletes for treatment and retired. He was approved in 1996 for work in the Wilmington diocese. Again placed on leave in 3/11. Died in 5/11. Cleared of 3/11 allegations in 11/11.

Named publicly as accused by the Los Angeles archdiocese on its list updated 12/6/2018. It notes an allegation received in 2014 of incidents 1972-1977. Allegations were reportedly of the sexual abuse of a minor female at the Catholic Information Center in L.A. He worked in L.A. 1965-1974. Assigned to the Paulist Center in Boston 1961-1962. Removed from ministry in 2014, living at a Paulist residence in San Francisco; still there in 2019. On the Paulists' list 3/8/2019. Included in the Memphis diocese's report 2/28/2020. Dove died in 10/2020. Included in 10/2022 on the Chicago archdiocese's list, where he was assigned 1985-1992. Included in the IL Attorney General's Report 5/23/2023.

Fr. Karl E. Dowd

Five allegations of abuse by Dowd were received shortly after his death in 2/2002. One man said he and his mother reported the abuse to a pastor in 1971. Nonetheless, Dowd was allowed to serve as director of Camp Fatima, a summer camp for children, from 1968 until he retired in 1990. Many priests have been accused of abuse at the camp. At least one claim against Dowd was included in 11/2002 $5M settlement involving 62 victims and 28 priests.

Suspended in 2002. Accused by two men of abuse as boys. Case referred to Vatican which sent it back to archdiocese for trial. Church trial held in 1/05. Acquitted; Vatican did not confirm the verdict until 2007. Returned to ministry as of 7/01/07. Returned to job as chaplain for NY Giants, but not to parish ministry. Lawsuit filed in 12/19 by one of the two who came forward in 2002, claiming abuse for five years, beginning in 1967 when he was age 12. Settled. Accused in suit filed in 11/20 of raping a girl, age 10, in 1971, and abusing her until 1975. Per the suit, two nuns held the girl down during the rape. Dowd denied it.

Accused in 1993 of sexual abuse in the late 1970s - early 1980s. Dowdy admitted to sexually abusing two minors.  One man said he was age 16 when the abuse began, and that it continued for eight years. Dowdy was removed from ministry and his faculties were removed. Sent to St. Luke's 1/1994-7/1994, where he admitted to sexually abusing boys. In 5/2023 a man said his abuse by Dowdy began when he was a 10-year-old altar boy and continued over four years. His name appeared on the Baltimore archdiocese's 9/2002 list of priests and brothers accused of sexually abusing minors. Included in the MD Attorney General's 4/5/2023 report.


Fr. John W. Dowling

Ordained for the Diocese of Savannah-Atlanta. On leave 1947-1951. Worked in the Sacramento diocese 1947-1981. Faculties withdrawn and dismissed from Sacramento diocese after a report in 1981 of child pornography. Three allegations of abuse of boys under age 14, occurring 1954-1981, were received by the Sacramento diocese in 2002, 2004 and 2019. Included on the diocese's list of credibly accused in 4/2019. On the Atlanta archdiocese's list in 11/2020. Included in the GA PAC's Report 3/24/2023. It details six reports of abuse of children. One alleged abuse ages 7-12 beginning in 1940 in Savannah. The boy told his mother about the abuse when he was in 7th grade, and Dowling was moved to Atlanta. Report in 2019 of abuse in 1975 in CA of a boy, ages 11-12. Another child was allegedly molested in 1972, reported in 1981. Dowling retired to FL after law enforcement told the Diocese they would press charges if he stayed in the county. Another report was of abuse in 1975, another in 1954-1955, and another in 1983. Dowling died in 2000.
