Fr. John L. Abrams
‘Sick leave ‘1989 until 1997 when ‘retired.’ Some time after 2002 several men reported to the diocese that they were sexually abused by Abrams during 1979-82, when they were boys and he was pastor of Sacred Heart in Queens. No criminal charges. Diocesan Review Board deemed the allegations credible 11/07; Abrams permanently removed. Case referred to Vatican. Died 7/5/08. Accused in 6/19 by two men of raping them when they were 10- to 13-year-old altar boys and students at St Patrick’s in Bay Ridge in the 1980s. They said he drove them around to places such as the beach and movies, and gave them beer, cigarettes and porn. On diocese’s list in 2/19.
