Fr. Robert Charles Becker
Parish priest, Canon lawyer, long-time Metropolitan Tribunal member. Died in 10/1989. Multiple allegations of abuse, beginning during seminary and spanning his priesthood. Per the Archdiocese, it received a first complaint of abuse in 1986. At least one claim included in a 10/2003 settlement. New lawsuit filed in 4/2006 claiming abuse by Becker and another priest in the late 1970s. Several other alleged victims known to plaintiff’s counsel. Suit included in a 5/2007 $6.65M settlement. At least one claim in a 8/2008 $12.7M settlement. At least one claim included in a 7/2009 settlement. Personnel file released 1/2014. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General’s Report, which notes at least 35 “reported survivors.”
