Fr. Hugo Bedoya
From Colombia. Not indexed in the U.S. Official Catholic Directory prior to 1973. Worked in the Dioceses of Lubbock, TX and Brooklyn, NY. He was Judicial Vicar of the Marriage Tribunal when named in massive 10/2003 civil suit in which 27 plaintiffs alleged abuse by 24 priests. Per the suit, Bedoya abused a child, age 9-11, at Fourteen Holy Martyrs in Bushwick, in the church, in the rectory, and elsewhere. The suit also says he examined the genitals of his altar boys in a group to make sure they were clean. He denied all the allegations. Another man joined the lawsuit 2/2004, alleging abuse by Bedoya during the 1970s. Bedoya remained in ministry until his removal 6/19/2012. Included on the Diocese’s list in 2/2019.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
