Fr. Michael C. Benham
Complaint received by the Archdiocese in Fall 2003. Removed from ministry in 01/04 after a “substantiated” allegation that he sexually abused a boy multiple times in Racine 1976-80, starting when the boy was age 9. D.A’.s office determined that the statute of limitations had expired so it could not prosecute. Per the Archdiocese, Benham admitted abusing the boy. Laicized, per Archdiocesan list updated 11/26/07. Died 2/29/12. Personnel file released 7/13 shows 8/27/08 date for laicization.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
