Fr. James J. Bergin
Accused of abuse of at least two minors. Died in 1992. One claim settled for $25K in Fall 1993. Weeks later, plaintiff was dead of a heroin overdose. His parents were furious that Rev. Alan Placa (for diocese) agreed to cash settlement with a person who was an active addict. Suffolk County Grand Jury’s description of Priest E matches a public allegation against Bergin. Named in a 2003 civil suit. Included on the diocese’s list in 3/21.
