Sr. Marlene Bertke
A former student nun filed a lawsuit 10/02 alleging that she was abused in 1959 in her first year at St. Walburg Convent by Sister Christopher, whose given name is Marlene Bertke. The student was 18 at the time. In the same suit, the woman also alleged that she had been previously abused at Villa Madonna Academy (a girls’ school) by another nun and that a third nun also fondled her. Bertke is still an active nun in 2008, living in the Erie PA area.
Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
