Fr. Henry C. Bezou

Ordained: 1938
Status: Settled

Diocese: Archdiocese of New Orleans LA

Monsignor. Former superintendent of archdiocesan schools. In 8/2019 the archdiocese settled with a man who claimed Bezou raped him in 1977, when he was a 9-year-old altar boy at St. Francis Xavier in Metairie. The man said he had been “threatened and silenced for decades.” The archdiocese stated that it settled with the man to provide counseling, but was not going to add Bezou to its list of accused priests. Bezou died in 1989.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
