Brom, current bishop of San Diego, testified in 2006 that he had been “investigated [in 1990s] for allegations that [he] took part in a specific orgy at the seminary that was connected with the cardinal.” Man alleged that when he was a seminarian, Brom, then bishop of Duluth, coerced him and others into sex. Matter settled for $100K; Brom denied any wrongdoing. Efforts to compel production of documents re investigation was quashed when Diocese of San Diego filed bankruptcy 3/07. Brom retired 9/13.
