Accused in a 2002 lawsuit of the sexual abuse of three brothers over a four-year period. One plaintiff signed an affidavit that his father reported the abuse in 1973 to then-Vicar General of Diocese, Bernard Law, who did nothing. In a 6/2002 deposition in another case Law admitted that he failed to keep Broussard, his seminary friend and classmate, away from children after being warned that he was molesting them. Broussard was reportedly retired and living in Houman MS in 2002. The suit settled in 3/2006. Broussard died in 2007. His name is included on the Diocese’s 3/19/2019 list of credibly accused, which notes alleged abuse 1969-1974 and that Broussard left ministry in 1975.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
