Fr. Daniel Peter Buck
Removed in 6/2002. Assigned to St. Francis Borgia Parish since 1979 when in 7/1984 a woman reported to the Archdiocese that she had found a love letter written by Buck to her 15-year-old daughter. Buck was moved to a different parish. Allegations reviewed by the Fitness Review Board some time after 1993; Board recommended he be allowed to stay in ministry as long as he was banned from being alone with minors. He had admitted to sexual misconduct with a child. Three more allegations surfaced in 2002 and 2003. Two were of abuse in the mid-1970s of sisters, ages 8-13. At least one claim settled in 10/2003. Vatican approved permanent removal from public ministry in 9/2005. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General’s Report, which notes at least five “reported survivors,” of abuse 1971-1981.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
