Ordained for the Diocese of Richmond VA. Worked in WV, the Diocese of Rockville Centre NY, and the Trenton and Metuchen dioceses. Removed 4/11/2002 in Metuchen after a man complained that he and numerous others had been abused by Butler in Rockville Centre in the 1950s and 1960s. The man said he had complained to the Rockville Centre Diocese when he was a teen, but no action, and that the Diocese moved Butler to a parish in Brooklyn. Worked in the Trenton and Metuchen dioceses 1971-2002. Also allegedly abused at least one in Metuchen; this individual was included in a Metuchen settlement of 2/2003. Named in a 5/2019 suit accusing over 300 in NJ. Included on the Richmond Diocese’s list 2/13/2019. Laicized. On the Rockville Centre Diocese’s’s list in 3/2021. Accused in a 9/2021 lawsuit of abusing a boy, ages 9-12, during 1995-1998, while assigned to St. John Vianney School in Colonia, NJ. Butler died in 2016.
