Fr. Neil Cawlings
Diocese: Diocese of Albany NY
English priest working as an extern in the Albany diocese in the 1970s. Accused in 2003, along with three other priests, of “improper sexual advances” in the late 1970s with a teenage boy allegedly supplied by Rev. Alan Jupin. A 5/7/2003 lawsuit claimed that Jupin intimidated the complainant and a 8/25/2003 suit accused the Diocese of slandering him. The District Attorney investigated the intimidation charge at the bishop’s request. The suits were dismissed 1/30/2004 without determining the validity of the abuse charges. Jupin and other accused priests were reinstated.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
