Fr. George H. Clements

Pastor of Holy Angels in Bronzeville 1969-1991. Adopted a child. Assigned to the Diocese of Naussau, Bahamas 1991-1993, then Washington DC 1993-2006. Retired in 2006. Clements admitted to a reporter in 1994 that he had been the subject of rumors of sexual misconduct. In 8/2019 he was suspended from ministry pending the investigation of an allegation that he sexually abused a child, ages 7-12, 1974-1979. Clements died in 11/2019. The alleged victim received a settlement from the archdiocese in 2/2022. Another man who accused Clements of sexually abusing him as a boy received a settlement, as announced in 4/2022 by Attorney Mitchell Garabedian. In 10/2026 Clements was was of four priests accused by seven plaintiffs in new lawsuits of sexually abusing them as children at Holy Angels. Clements allegedly sexually abused boys at the parish along with its principal, Paul Smith, and Rev. Kenneth Brigham. The men’s modus operandi is said to have been to host small parties in the rectory for parish students, isolate them and sexually abuse them. They also targeted boys who were not from the school.
