Fr. Basil Peter Congro
Ordained in 1978 for the Diocese of Fresno. Parish priest in the early 1980s in the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Navy chaplain 1983-1994. Excardinated to the Charleston SC diocese. Charleston said it learned of an allegation in 6/2002, deemed it credible and put Congro on administrative leave 9/23/2002. Accused in a 4/14/2003 lawsuit of groping and sodomizing a boy 1980-1983, starting when the boy was age 15, in the Rockville Centre diocese. Some abuse allegedly took place in a confessional. Included on the Charleston diocese’s 3/29/2019 list of credibly accused.
