Fr. Absalom Coutinho
Arrived in the U.S. from India in 1970. At least two variations of last name. Assigned to the Diocese of Paterson in 1984. Transferred to the Diocese of Venice FL “on loan” in 1998. Accused of sexually abusing two females in Paterson, at least one a minor; removed from ministry 4/20/2002. The Diocese asked the Vatican for permission to hold a court trial. Included 2/13/2019 on the Archdiocese of Newark’s list of credibly accused; noted to have worked at St. Nicholas in Jersey City. Permanently removed from ministry. On the Paterson diocese’s list 2/13/2019. Multiple accusations noted.
