Fr. James Curry

Ordained: 1949
Status: Settled

Died: 07/15/1986
Diocese: Diocese of Norwich CT

A civil suit filed by a woman in 2/2008 accused Curry of sexually abusing her for 8 years, beginning in 1966 when she was age 8 and Curry was assigned to St. Mary’s. She said that after each assault he would tell her to ask God to forgive her sin and for tempting Curry. The filing of this suit exposed a 1983 suit in which Curry was accused of abusing his housekeeper’s 11-year-old daughter in 1980-1981 at the same church. That suit settled in 1986. Police were notified in 1981; no action. Curry died in 1986. In 4/2019 a 60-year-old man testified before the CT Judiciary Committee that, when he was age 8, Curry sexually assaulted him four Sundays in a row at St. Joseph’s in Noank. Included on the diocese’s list in 2/2019.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
