Fr. William E. Dean
In 10/20 the archdiocese announced that Dean had been found unsuitable for ministry, due to an allegation received in 10/19, found substantiated, of the sexual abuse of a minor in the 1970s. Dean was assigned to SS. Philip & James in Exton at the time of the abuse. No criminal charges due to the statute of limitations. Had been chaplain and in residence since 2012 at a retirement home for nuns in Malvern. In 10/20 he had been moved to a place for priests in a prayer and penance program. The diocese had also received a report in 2014 of possible inappropriate behavior with a minor at SS. Philip & James; unclear if same victim. Archdiocese decided after the 2014 report to limit Dean’s ministry.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
