Fr. Arwyn N. Diesta
Extern priest from the Diocese of Sorsogon, Philippines working in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles 1978-1988. Returned to the Philippines. Accused in 1992 of the abuse of several students 1982-1988. Cardinal Mahony wrote in 1993 to a bishop in Diesta’s home diocese to urge him to keep Diesta away from teenage boys and seminarians, and that he should undergo a psychological evaluation. The bishop “scoffed” at Mahony , who then wrote to the Vatican. In 2001, Mahony found Diesta working as a U.S. Navy chaplain and at a seminary in the Philippines. He wrote again to Vatican and also informed the U.S. Military, L.A. Police and Philippines authorities. Diesta reportedly remained an active parish priest there as of 2013. His L.A. personnel file was released in 1/2013.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
