Fr. Luis J. Fernandez
Reportedly in 10/20, a man reported to the archdiocese in 2007 that he was abused in the mid-1970s as a St. John Vianney Prep student by Fernandez and Rev. Robert Cooper. The archdiocese offered to pay for the man’s therapy. A second accuser came forward in 2020 with allegations of abuse by Fernandez in the 1980s. Fernandez left New Orleans in 1978 to be a military chaplain, returning to parish work in 1985. He retired in 2003 in Miami FL, where he was still living in 10/20.
Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
