Fr. John F. Ferry
Died 4/11/1988. A man accused Ferry, then an editor of the diocesan newspaper, of drugging and sexually abusing him in the late 1960s when the accuser was a high school student working at the paper. He told his father who “went to the parish with a baseball bat.” The man said that the incident wasn’t reported. He wrote to the Diocese at some point; his letter, along with complaints from more than 35 other alleged clergy abuse victims, were forwarded to police. Information was not released to public until 11/2013, after an NBC 10 investigation. The accuser had correspondence from the Diocese. Ferry’s name was included 7/1/2019 on the Diocese’s list of credibly accused.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
