Fr. Francis J. Flemming
Diocese: Diocese of Camden NJ
Accused of abusing a boy, age 12, beginning in 1960. His accuser said two other priests also abused him. He also said that, when he was age 16, Flemming put a gun to his head and threatened to kill him if he told. Flemming denied the allegations when confronted by the church in the 1960s. In a 1994 RICO civil suit a second man claimed Flemming abused him at age 14. One suit was dismissed in 1/03 because of accuser’s credibility. Both accusers were among 23 plaintiffs included in a 3/03 $880K settlement. Flemming died in 1986. On diocese’s list 2/13/19.
Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
