Fr. Matthew E. Foley

Parish priest, missionary, Army chaplain. Worked in Mexico 1994-2000. In 1/2025 the Archdiocese announced that Foley was the subject of an allegation of child sexual abuse, occurring 30 years prior, while assigned to St. Agatha in Lawndale. Foley denied the allegation. He was placed on leave pending the outcome of an investigation. On 4/12/2025 the Archdiocese stated that its Independent Review Board had found “no reasonable cause” to believe the allegation. Foley was to be reinstated to ministry and was deemed by Cardinal Cupich a priest in good standing.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
