Named in a case settled in 8/2008 as having sexually abused a boy who had been sent to him for counseling, beginning when the boy was age 12 in about 1988, and continuing into the boy’s adulthood. As pastor of St. Joseph the Carpenter in Roselle, Gillen hired his alleged victim to lead youth activities. The alleged victim, John Schulte, was arrested in 11/2002 and convicted for the sexual assault of three boys in the parish. Gillen remained in active ministry.
