Parish priest, pastor. Held prominent chancery positions, including as Vice-Chancellor, Chancellor, Pro-Synodal Judge, Vicar General, and Vicar. Retired in 2004. Named as accused in the MI Attorney General’s 6/25/2026 Diocese of Saginaw Report. In 2004 Gavit admitted to sexual involvement with a teenage girl decades prior, after his victim contacted the Diocese. Diocesan records show that the plan was for Gavit to retire and undergo an evaluation at St. Luke Institute. Gavit apologized to the woman and gave her a monetary settlement. He died 3/2/2017.
