Gormley admitted to molesting a boy in 1966 and other boys in the 1950s and 1960s. He took a leave of absence in 1969, left the priesthood two years later and married. Problems were know prior to ordination and he was in therapy for 30 years. In 1993 he apologized to the 1966 victim after a chance encounter. This man filed a civil suit in 1993 and later settled for $70K. Suit filed in in 8/19 under the NY Child Victims Act by a man alleging sexual abuse as a boy by Gormley 1965-68. Included on the diocese’s list in 8/22, noted to be deceased.
