On 3/11/2023 Cardinal Cupich announced that that there was an allegation that Guzman sexually abused a minor 40 years prior, 25 years before he entered seminary. Guzman was overseas on military duty when the allegation was received and agreed to “step aside” from his parish, Most Holy Redeemer, upon his return. The Archdiocese determined there was “insufficient reason to suspect Father Guzman was guilty” He was reinstated 3/21/2023.
