Fr. Charles T. Hanel
Assigned to Queen of Apostles in Pewaukee when arrested 9/18, charged with second degree sexual assault of a child. Accused of inappropriately touching a 13-year-old girl during confession on 12/17/17. He denied the allegation. Pled not guilty in 1/19. Mistrial in 3/20 after publicity that the alleged victim’s mother was attempting to gain legal status to stay in the U.S. The D.A. decided not to seek new charges. The archdiocese announced in 8/20 that it found the allegations to be “unsubstatiated and false” and that Hanel would be returned to ministry.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
