Fr. Patrick T. Hoare

Ordained: 2007
Status: Accused

Diocese: Diocese of Charlotte NC

Pastor of St. Matthew’s in Charlotte when placed on leave in 12/2019 due to an allegation that he sexually abused a minor 25 years prior (before ordination) in PA. Police in PA investigated and found additional allegations that Hoare engaged in “inappropriate touching of relatives” when he was a teenager and young adult in the 1980s and 1990s. There were also complaints in the Diocese of Charlotte that Hoare was observed being “very touchy” with minors, including hugs and rubbing of shoulders or abdomens. Hoare denied the allegations. In 7/2020 the diocese announced that, based on recommendation from the Lay Review Board, Hoare would remain on administrative leave. Hoare appealed to the Vatican. As of 5/2023, Hoare has continued his longtime weekly podcast, “Daily Reflections with Fr. Pat.”

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
