The  diocese received a report in 1994 that Hoefgen sexually abused two girls, who were sisters ages 9 and 11, in the 1960s in Sault Ste. Marie. Sent to treatment. Allowed to remain in ministry. Confronted in 4/2002 by diocesan officials after the sisters contacted the diocese. He admitted to his behavior with the girls, and said he also touched his niece. Sent to St. Luke’s Institute for evaluation. Permanently removed in 5/2002. Died 1/17/2012. Included in the MI Attorney General’s 10/2022 report.
