Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General’s Report, which shows a first allegation to the Archdiocese in 6/1989, that Kissane sexually abused a girl 1978-1979 at St. Catherine’s in Oak Lawn. He admitted the abuse of her and two other girls. Kept in ministry. Archdiocese didn’t investigate until 1/1990. One priest said grade school girls would hang around Kissane, including in the rectory, and become “attached.” Another allegation in 8/1990. Accuser filed suit. Admitted to “sexual involvement” with nine girls, as young as age 14. Faculties withdrawn in 4/91, resigned in 5/1991. Accused in 8/1994 of raping a girl 20 years prior at St. Catejan. Review board said it would not investigate and would not try to contact the victim because Kissane had already resigned. Laicized in 8/2010. Died in 4/2011.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
