Fr. George N. Lally
From Ireland. Ordained for the Diocese of Providence RI. Transferred to the San Diego diocese around 1970. A man filed a civil lawsuit in 8/2002 alleging sexual abuse by Lally on several occasions in 1971, when Lally was assigned to St. Mary’s in El Centro. Then 9 years old, the boy reported the matter to the church’s pastor. Lally was removed from the parish and reassigned as a college chaplain. By 1973 he was back in Providence, working in parishes. The Diocese agreed to pay college costs for the boy. Lally left the priesthood in 1979, married a former nun, and was living in San Clemente, CA. Included in the 3/4/2026 RI Attorney General’s Report.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
