Fr. William W. Lanphear
Ordained for the Diocese of Buffalo, later became a priest of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales. Parish priest; high school teacher; high school and college chaplain; hospital chaplain. Assigned 1974-1982 to DeSales Catholic High School in Lockport. Transferred in 1982 to Lumen Christi High School in Jackson MI. Joined the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales in 1985. Worked as a chaplain at University of Eastern MI in Ypsilati and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, and served weekends at University Parish in Ann Arbor. Died 6/19/2008. The Diocese settled with a man in 2018 who claimed Lanphear sexually abused him in the 1990s. Accused in a lawsuit filed 9/23/2019 under the NY Child Victims Act of sexually abusing a child, ages 14-18, during 1971-1974 at St. Bernard Parish in Buffalo. Included on the Diocese of Buffalo’s list updated 11/5/2019. Multiple allegations.
