Fr. Tarcisio D. Lanuevo

Ordained: 1956
Status: Settled

Died: 06/24/2023
Diocese: Diocese of Oakland CA

From the Philippines where he was ordained in 1956 in Manila. Spiritual Director for the Borongan Diocesan Minor Seminary, then rector in 1968. Named pastor of a parish in 1971, then chancellor-Secretary of the diocese for three years. Reportedly arrived in the Diocese of Oakland in 1976. In 12/1979 the parents of two girls, ages 7 and 2, reported to police that Lanuevo had molested their daughters at St. John the Baptist in San Lorenzo. Lanuevo was incardinated into the Oakland diocese 4/2/1985. He continued to work in diocesan parishes until 1990, the year he allegedly sexually abused children at St. Joachim’s in Hayward.  He was removed from ministry 7/29/1992. The girls filed a civil lawsuit in 1993. The suit, which eventually settled, claimed that Lanuevo’s pastor had promised their parents that he would receive treatment and never be around children if they dropped the criminal charges.  In 1993 he was working at the U.S. Veterans Domiciliary in Portland, OR. Included in 2019 on the Oakland diocese’s list of credibly accused. Lanuevo died in OR 6/24/2023.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
