Elevated in 1974 to Auxiliary Bishop of Washington D.C. Died in 1988. Named publicly as accused on archdiocese’s list 10/15/2018. It notes that abuse was first reported in 2002. In testimony for a hearing related to the Childhood Sexual Abuse Prevention Amendment Act 2007, a man stated that he was sexually abused, including rape, at age 10 by Lyons in the summer of 1965. Per psychotherapist and former monk, Richard Sipe, adult men told him they were abused by Lyons when he was a priest, and one said Lyons abused him from ages 7-17.
