Fr. Saul Madrid

Ordained: 1985
Status: Settled

Diocese: Diocese of Phoenix AZ

Raised in Chihuahua, Mexico. Arrived in the U.S. at age 18. Ordained for the Diocese of Phoenix, AZ. A man filed suit in 6/2003 alleging that Madrid drugged and sexually assaulted him in 1987 when he was a minor. The suit says officials of the archdiocese used spiritual arguments and the victim’s devout faith to keep him from filing a lawsuit or reporting the abuse when it occurred. Madrid was sent to the Servants of the Paraclete in Jemez Sprints, NM for treatment in 1988, then reassigned. Resigned in 2002. Civil suit settled in 2005.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
