Fr. Lucien Mandeville
Accused in 2002 of abuse of a boy in 1944 in Lewiston, another in the early 1950s (who said Mandeville also abused his younger brother) in Rumford, and one during an unknown time frame. Retired in 1973. Died in 1984. Settlement of a lawsuit in 4/2024 with a man, age 89, who claimed he was sexually abused at age 13 in 1948 by Mandeville. The man said he and two other boys were playing outside of St. John’s in Rumford when Mandeville offered to drive them home, and that the priest abused him in the car after dropping off the other boys. The man said he decided to settle so that he could put it behind him in the best way he could for healing.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
