Fr. Alan J. Martineau
Assigned after ordination to St. Anne’s in Shrewsbury, then as administrator of St. Paul and St. Stanislaus parishes in Warren. Placed on leave in 1/2022 due to an allegation of the sexual abuse of a girl, beginning when she was age 14, 2019-2021. There were about 80,000 text messages between the two. Deemed credible in 12/2022. Criminally charged in 2/2023 with three counts of indecent assault. Martineau was reportedly placed on probation for one year in 9/2025 in a deal whereby he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault and battery, and the charges of indecent assault and battery on a person age 14 or older were dropped. The Diocese said Martineau no longer had priestly faculties and was not permitted to act as a priest. In 10/2026 the Boston Globe reported that, per police records, the girl’s father had complained in a letter to Bishop McManus in 8/2021 about bizarre behavior by Martineau, including sneaking into their home at night; there was no mention in the letter of his behavior with their daughter. (The family lived in a house on church property.) There were also indications that McManus was aware of the situation in 4/2021. In 10/2026 BishopAccountability.org filed a vos estis complaint with the Vatican against McManus.
