Fr. William M. McFarlane

Ordained: 2005
Status: Reinstated

Diocese: Archdiocese of Chicago IL

Removed from active ministry in 7/19 after the archdiocese was informed by the Dept. of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and the Cook County state’s attorney’s office of an allegation of sex abuse by McFarlane, occurring in 1997. The allegations were deemd “unfounded” by DCFS and “unmerited” by the archdiocesan review board. McFarlane was reinstated. Per DCFS, they could not investigate because McFarlane’s accuser is no longer a minor and that the term “unfounded does not reflect the validity of allegations.”

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
