Fr. Joseph F. McGarvey
Lawsuit filed in 1993 by three people, one a priest, alleging abuse as teenagers by McGarvey and William C. O’Connell in the 1960s. Plaintiffs say they were abused 1/1965 – 12/1972 when McGarvey was pastor of St. Mary Magdalen in Millville. Suit settled in 10/1993 for $384K. McGarvey was placed on leave in 1993; later permanently removed. On diocese’s list 2/13/2019. Died 1/28/2010. Accused in a claim settled in 2020 in the high five figures of sexually abusing a boy, ages 5-6, in 1977-1978, while assigned to St. Mary Magdalen in Millville. The boy was a student at the parish school.
