Fr. Joseph R. McGowan
In 3/02 a 78-year-old man reported that he was abused by McGowan at ages 13-15 in 1937-39, at St. Francis Xavier in Winthrop. McGowan died in 1962. In 10/09 the archdiocese announced that it had substantiated several allegations received in 2009 of abuse occurring 1936-49. All tributes and memorials on church property were ordered removed.
