Taught briefly at Salesian High School in New Rochelle, NY, later assigned to St. Thomas More School in Montville as a chaplain and counselor. The school began an investigation in 2000 after it received an allegation, and informed alumni and parents. The allegations were found credible. In 2003 a former student filed suit, claiming sexual abuse in the 1970s by McGrath, and in 2004 another accuser came forward. McGrath died in 1998 at age 62 of cirrhosis and liver cancer. Included on the Norwich diocese’s list 2/22/2019 of those with substantiated allegations against them. Included in 3/2020 on the Salesians’ list of credibly accused. Accused in a lawsuit filed in 8/2026 of sexually abusing a Thomas More boarding student during 1992-1993. McGrath’s accuser said he reported the abuse in Spring 1993 to the school’s headmaster, who did nothing.
