Fr. Robert J. McIntyre
At least two civil lawsuits filed in 1992 and 1993 named McIntyre as responsible for covering up abuse at the RI Catholic orphanage, St. Aloysius Home, where he was director, and conspiring to prevent proper reporting procedures. One man alleges that McIntyre also participated in his sexual abuse. In a civil trial in 1999 the jury found no evidence to support the charges. Included 7/1/2019 on the Diocese’s list of credibly accused, which notes that McIntyre was removed from ministry 3/30/1994. Died 6/23/2020.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
