Fr. Michael P. McLaughlin
Sued in 2003. Accused of abuse of an 11-year-old boy in 1980 in a church rectory. Another man alleged he was abused by McLaughlin as a child in 1987. McLaughlin worked in four parishes before he was barred from ministry in 1990. A 3/2004 statement from the diocese said McLaughlin and two other accused priests left the ministry without requesting laicization. Allegations against them range from credible to substantiated to admitted. Included on the Diocese’s list in 2005. Laicization in process in 2020.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
