Maryland Province. Allegations first public in 11/2010. Taught at Scranton Prep 1961-1983 and 1985-1986. Held various positions at U. of Scranton 2002-2006. Chaplain summers 1965-1983 at Georgetown U. Hospital. In 1990 his niece reported that he “hugged her in a sexual manner” in 1959. Removed in 2006 after earlier allegation became known; was living in Jesuit community in a monitored setting. Allegation in 2008 that he touched a 10-year-old girl in a sexual way in 1963 in Scranton. Deemed credible. McLaughlin admitted ‘there may be other victims of similar sexual misconduct’ in the Scranton diocese. Included in 8/14/2018 PA Grand Jury Report. Added to Baltimore list 9/2018. On Scranton diocese’s list 8/19/2018. On MD Province’s list 12/17/2018. Accused in a lawsuit filed in 11/2020 of raping a 7-year-old girl in 1972, while he was assigned to St. Ignatius in Kingston. McLaughlin died in 2019. Mentioned in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General’s Report.
