Br. John Paul Medvit
Named by a plaintiff in a civil suit filed 12/4/12 against the Order and the Diocese. A man alleged that Medvit abused him in 1986 when he was a freshman at Damien Memorial School on Oahu and Medvit was his teacher. Suit alleges that the acts included caressing, rubbing, groping and hugging the student. The youth reported the abuse to school and diocese at the time. Medvit was temporarily removed and later returned to the school where he again physically attacked the student. Medvit died in 8/12. Listed by the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers in 2014 as accused by at least two persons in claims settled in bankruptcy proceedings.
Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
