Fr. Timothy Meehan

Order: LC
Ordained: 2000
Status: Accused

Diocese: Archdiocese of Hartford CT

Named publicly as accused by the Legionaries of Christ on its list in 3/2022. Removed in 2013 from his assignment in Italy as a minor seminary rector after the order’s North American Territory was informed that Meehan was in a “sexual relationship” in the mid-1990s, prior to ordination, with a person under age 18. Meehan’s victim was under Meehan’s supervision in his role as assistant formator in the LC’s United States novitiate. Meehan admitted the “relationship” to his superiors in Rome yet was encouraged to pursue ordination. He left the order in 2017 to become a diocesan priest. (Not to be confused with Hartford Priest Timothy A. Meehan, ordained in 1959.)

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
