Fr. Leo James Michaud

Ordained: 1977
Status: Accused

Diocese: Diocese of Portland ME

Removed in 4/02. Accused of abuse of teenage boy, ages 16-19, in the early 1970s while Michaud was a seminarian. Bishop said in 2007 that there was no proof of sexual abuse of a minor but that there was other misconduct that would keep Michaud from active ministry. He is shown as on Special or Other Diocesan Assignment in the Catholic Directories 2003-2012. Name changed in the Directory’s 2004-2012 volumes to James L. Michaud.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
