Fr. Francisco Montero

From Ecuador. Also known as Francisco “Fredy” Montero Monar. Began working in the archdiocese in 2001 and supposedly was living with vicar general, Kevin McDonough, in St. Paul. Instead he was living with a woman. In 2007 he fled to Ecuador after a woman complained to the Church and then to police that he had molested her 4-year-old daughter. The Church said that Montero’s Bishop in Ecuador had recalled him. A civil lawsuit was filed in 9/2008. Montero’s name was included in 2/2014 on the Archdiocese’s list of accused. The St. Paul-Minneapolis archdiocese warned the Guaranda diocese, and Vatican was told of Montero’s past. In 2015 Montero was found to be an active priest in remote parishes and with youth in the Guaranda diocese.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
